In this thread, we all share works of great comics artists and old masters from France, Belgium, Italy or South American countries. Old masters like Moebius, Druillet or Enki Bilal are accepted as well as newer talents like Kerascoet.

Why the fuck are the Titan Comics distributions of Elric so goddamn expensive. I bought Ruby Throne for like 7$ back in the day, and now it’s worth like 200$. I’m noticing all Elric-related things to be going up in price all of the sudden. What the fuck happened?

Pornfags should be put in a containment board. They give advice to artists when they haven't even dipped their toes into anything that isn't porn. The problem with these people is they're massively out of touch. They think porn is just "better" art, that's why it does better, not that it's super ultra easy mode on training wheels because it has nothing to do with artwork.
I guarantee that all the people telling you that drawing original content will net you anything if "you market yourself" (which means nothing since all they know is drawing porn and fanart like the parasotoids they are) have never, NEVER actually tried worked on anything vaguely original. They just don't get how fucking stupid it is when you don't go down the easy route.

Have you done it? Why do you talk about stuff you know jack shit about? People stop following when you stop drawing what reeled you in. Even fanart works like that. You are out of touch and talking out of your ass. Keep drawing porn but please, shut the fuck up when it comes to art.

I know because I'm the audience for it. I was reeled in by sexy content, then appreciated the artist's style/vision in other work.
Much European work is like this. Also many mangaka made the transition from hentai to manga (or worked in both, see Masamune Shirow).
The problem with online burgers is that they make too much of a distinction between NSFW & SFW. Many great artists have had coomer art in their versatile body of work. There's a false dichotomy developing over this shit.

It's not this that is depressing, it's that you started off this conversation with
>sometimes I think this is a cope just to make crappy work. Sure, p0rn reels readers in, but it doesn't mean we need to be making crap.
Then when someone who actually tried hard comes out of the woodwork and says it's bullshit you grasp at straws and your whole argument crumbles. Audiences now consume porn and lowbrow trash 24/7 yet at the same time believe in this fantasy where different, original work can still survive, or that you can make "quality" work that at the same time is injected with things that make it inherently dumb and shitty. You probably just think that "quality" work is well drawn porn or something.
And you didn't read Appleseed. Chances are you didn't even look at Shirow's oily porn, you just keep the name at hand when you need to make examples, just like your average otaku who consumes bouncy tits 24/7 but always keeps Akira at the ready when someone says anime is shit.
It's not the state of things, it's the constant lying between one's teeth permeating all of it that make me so disgusted.

>Audiences now consume porn and lowbrow trash 24/7 ...
When has it ever been different? Most of the popular art from most eras has been lowbrow, the best popular artists manage to create good work in lowbrow, pulp mediums (EC Comics, classic Marvel, even manga is a lowbrow, cheaply printed medium).
Porn is just more consumed now because it is more easily available.

>or that you can make "quality" work that at the same time is injected with things that make it inherently dumb and shitty.
Sex is inherently dumb and shitty? Sex is an essential part of the human condition.

>You probably just think that "quality" work is well drawn porn or something.
Great artistry goes into well drawn porn (mastery of anatomy, facial expressions, etc. is required), and the more sophisticated stuff here reflects literary tradition (Serpieri is at least aware of De Sade).

>And you didn't read Appleseed. Chances are you didn't even look at Shirow's oily porn, you just keep the name at hand when you need to make examples ...
Most of my collection consists of classic American comic strips like Krazy Kat, EC Comics, Warren, Vampirella, Bernie Wrightson, Crumb, and my personal fave Wally Wood (who did great porn btw).
I have "looked at" Shirow's oily porn btw.

>It's not the state of things, it's the constant lying between one's teeth permeating all of it that make me so disgusted.
You sound like you just have a hang up about porn anon. But don't worry, there's always the Jake Parker route, it's just a steeper climb.

Puta Madre, Muthafuckaz and The Grocery are made by Guillaume Singelin and publish under Label 619. Personnally I recommend The Grocery above all else (though Muthafuckaz had a movie adaptation and I have yet to read it) really love his storytelling

Good thread OP, but there is more to french comics than hyper-realistic and/or pr0n. /ic/ often critic "muh style" but if you're only looking for the more realistic styles, you're missing out on a lot of good modern comics.

Kairos by Ulysse Malassagne. Has 3 books and is complete. The style look simple but the guy is a talented animator and it shows.

Anything by this guy is pretty good but I don't know if it has been translated. Otherwise I recommend Bouletcorp and Kerascoet (Beauty) for more original art styles
