>the artist has subjugated his individual expression to suit the prevalent conventions of the style. nothing unexpected is happening in this picture
>the style and subject matter are designed to be as easily consumable as possible for the lowest common denominator. while not inherently a bad thing, it should also not be presented as having any deep ideals
>choice of subject matter shows what the artist deems important to look at. the fact that a cute girl is the main and only focus, implies a personal frustration of some kind

Artists need exposure in order to get clinets in order to make money

Exposure creates the artist's brand. Without exposure, an artist is nothing.

>> No.4697448

>>4697364

This is true, but deflects from a more important truth: the people who actually command exposure always pay their artists, because when you have a real business, it's more important to have reliable and efficient workers than a few hundred dollars in assorted freebies. The intern who would have to go around trawling for gullible artists to gyp would end up pulling a salary worth more than the actual art pieces. The economics don't work.

In other words, everyone who tries to pay you in exposure without also putting cash on the table is blowing smoke up your ass.

>> No.4697498

>>4697364
I'm not going to get exposure from you posting my painting of your dog on Facebook, Karen. Exposure doesn't pay the bills either. Fuck you and your work for exposure bullshit. The most exposure I'd get from people like you is you telling your friends that I work for free.

Do you ask plumbers or electricians to work for exposure? No, you pay them well for their experience and time. If they do well, they amass good reviews, that's proper exposure.

Would you fix my car for free? Don't worry Karen, you can do it for the exposure. I can't pay you for your time and the parts but I'm sure someone will pick you up and hire you into a nice auto shop some day.

>> No.4697509

>>4697498
You retarded dipshit. You CANNOT make money if you don't have CLIENTS. The point of exposure is to get your name out there and to let people see your work.

If you don't get likes and retweets, no one will care/see about your art no matter how good you think you are. Ever realize that the more likes you get, the more popular people think you are and the more valuable your art becomes.

You cry about "WAAAAAH EXPOSURE BAD, GIB MONEY" but would suck the dick of an artist with 100k followers if they retweeted your art because then its send more traffic that way and get you more potential clients.

Exposure is the key to everything. Fuck you and your shitty art. You should be grateful that people even look at your gallery.

I wonder how businesses get clients? Do you think they work for free at the beginning? Man, how the fuck does that work? Huh... What a fuckin mystery.

>You cry about "WAAAAAH EXPOSURE BAD, GIB MONEY" but would suck the dick of an artist with 100k followers if they retweeted your art
Nope, I built my following by myself without doing a single thing for free, and I don't suck dick to leech followers. Nice try though. :) Still not gonna paint your dog for the exposure, Karen. Sorry there's no manager for you to call about this.

You didn't answer the question about my car, by the way. I'd like you to go buy everything you need to replace my engine mounts, also my brakes need replacing. You can work for exposure, and do it as good as a professional shop, and fast, right? I need my car done by Friday. I promise I'll tell all my friends about you :)

Bro artists draw free art all the time. What do you call fanart? Are artists not allowed to draw for fun anymore?

Make a popular manga and suddenly you get an influx of free fanart and publicity. Free is good!

I bet you don't draw unless someone pays you and that's why you'll never improve. JUST DRAW!

Not him but explain your problem with multiply layers

>> No.4699216

>>4699193
That poster routinely uses some shitty workflow they saw a jap do without understanding color theory or having taste themselves. By itself multiply is harmless, but people like him use it as a crutch to fill in their lack of knowledge. Multiply and darken remove your control and make you rely on the pixel math being right based on the initial colors you pick instead of picking the colors yourself. There's no direct color phase, they try to stack on as many layer blending modes until they get something that looks vaguely "right" to them but looks completely dead. Look at the body in the image, there's hardly any saturation in the skin tones, it's like using dodge and burn. If you know what you're doing, multiply is fine. Too many people use it as a crutch for lack of knowledge and practice. It's like using an actual blue or purple for shading or following some deviantart tutorial on how to paint shadows with a 30% multiply blue.

The way proficient digital painters use adjustment layers is usually for a quick fix and then merge them back in immediately.

And maybe at the very end of the polishing phase in the last adjustments before printing.

I would lose my fucking mind if i had :

>sketch layer
>color blocking layer (times 12)
>first shadow pass layer in multiply
>second shadow pass for cast shadows
>first light pass
>highlights
>overlay layer so you can blast some pinks in there because your character looks fucking dead
>background layer
>global adjustments layers
>stooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop

>> No.4699410

>>4699361
Agreed, those are the main ways I use it with it primarily being more of a photo touchup/postprocessing effect than during the painting process. Or a quick color balance/adjustment and then merge instead of a sea of spaghetti layers where you're stuck with the inflexible design decisions of whatever layer stack you have. Begs tend to not be confident in their work or being able to repeat things they've done before because it was "luck". They try to make everything as non-destructive as possible and get buried in the overhead.

>>4699187
Except those layers are empty. Just testing shit out. I dont usuallu use those except for post processing.
