Fetish artist problems

Is it inevitable for fetish artists to become pigeonholed into only being associated with their fetish? In other words, can a fetish artist ever be seen as just an artist, or will they always be known as a fetish artist?

Pic related, by Merunyaa. Merunyaa started out doing normal artwork, and then after getting a commission for a diaper piece she decided to take it on. After that, she became "the" artist to go to for diaper commissions. Sometimes when she would post her art, she would express exasperation ("Another one of THESE commissions again.") and would sometimes remind her audience that she likes to do non-diaper stuff as well.
Eventually, I guess she said enough is enough - she deleted pretty much most of her diaper artwork from her accounts and has pivoted to doing regular nsfw pinups. Last I checked she doesn't even take commissions anymore.

Needless to say, the diaper/ABDL community feels a little betrayed. They feel like she used them to get popular, and now she doesn't even acknowledge this side of her art or the community she rose up in popularity from. Of course, pictures of her fetish artwork are still in circulation by fans of the Merunyaa they used to know, and I suspect her diapered past would likely follow her even if she ever got work in the industry.

So with that said, /ic/, is it possible to find a balance? On a personal level, there are times I would like to explore doing artwork of particular fetishes (not diaper stuff, to be clear - not my thing). But at the same time, I don't want that particular side of my portfolio to color or overshadow the rest of it, or alter the expectations of my audience to where they are actively disappointed when I do not upload a fetish picture. I don't want to be a "fetish artist" I want to be an artist who occasionally depicts certain fetishes.

Maybe I'm just overthinking things, I don't know. But what are /ic/'s opinions on fetish artists and fetish pigeonholing?

I think nowadays making a separation between the artist and the art work is near impossible. You could draw beautiful landscapes but if in the past you drew something wrong you will forever be haunted by that.

honestly, anything that involves objects and that is kind of neutral out of the fetish context is very tame.
