You don't have to be good to respond, just someone who truly got better. Tell us things that you personally know worked for you in terms of helping your art get better that you don't see pushed as advice enough online or elsewhere.
Please please please don't forget to pwy when you comment anons!

Not grinding fundies every day, that sucked any fun from art.
Also doing commissions and treating them as assignments where I use what I learned.

I started a big project that I well knew I would probably never finish. But having something big to work on gave me the motivation and focus to keep working every day. No wondering, "What should I paint/draw today?" just a big old block to chip away at a little bit every day.

Of course, I never finished it, but I came out the other end a much better artist than I went in.

This last month I made a switch from working every day on different thing, to working on one or two, perhaps three things along the week. I've been taking a more relaxed approach with a slower pace. Or at least it seems slower. And for the most part I went from trying to participate on challenges and trying topics with friends, to immersing myself both in certain basic things that I want to learn out of sheer personal interest (One of them is composition, for example) as well as doing studies of certain subjects that I've either have wanted to tackle for a while or that I came across and liked.
Having in mind that for this I'm mainly working with line drawing and trying my best to push my knowledge and skill in this area. And training my line weight too.

It's rather simple but this approach has made me draw much more. Often losing myself on the sketch for hours. And I've noticed a decent increase in my speed, as well as my stamina. Plus I'm properly working a study until it's done. while before I'd fine this pretty hard to do, I couldn't make myself sit down and work so much on a drawing.
I'm thinking that perhaps the thought of "I'll just work on this a tiny bit for today" rather than the "alright, time to do a full drawing that must look great" is more helpful when you're sitting down to draw.

Pic related. It's some current ongoing studies as well as quick silhouette exercises that I came across and deiced to try out. Sorry if the image is small, I just resized and re arranged everything onto a single layer.

draw a box. Before I had no control over my lines, it was like a had two left hands. Now I can put my lines where I want.

I still shit tho. Because I don't know where to put the lines yet.

I’m doing draw a box and I still have no fucking control over my lines. All wobbly, always have that curve at the very beginning, always overshoot or miss the mark. I feel Ike I must be making some critical error, like I’m holding the pen too tightly or something.

I don’t consider myself good or someone who has found things that “worked for me” if that makes sense. That’s part of the reason I wanted to start the thread to see what I could do better.
