Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0
https://youtu.be/t_IODIIYAe0 [Open]

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

Yes, absolutely. The perfect balance on who to copy is someone with technical skill, appeal, and being someone you personally like.

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent, so you better choose someone who's very solid as an artist. Or else you will absorb the same kinds of mistakes they make.

Nope, experimentation very good. It's going to take a long time for you to find your artistic voice. All artists are inspired by other art. Though, I would recommend you to segment periods for each artists to really commit the way they draw to muscle memory and gain a better understanding on the nuances of how they draw.

>>4652846
Draw their drawing, draw their drawing again, draw their drawing while not looking at the ref, take time to just look at the specific drawing and break it down with your eyes, take time to look at a bunch of their drawings to see their art progression or general trends, draw a mannequin of their drawing, draw a mannequin over their drawing, draw anatomy over their drawing, draw their drawing from a completely different angles (better to use multiple refs if you can), draw your own drawing of the same character while using their's as a ref (use multiple refs), draw something new while using their drawings as refs, draw something from imagination while keeping what you learned from studying their art in mind. A trick you can use is always keeping a folder of their art as a ref you can pull up whenever you're have difficulty drawing their work or your own work

Of course, learn your fundies and just draw from imagination. This is meant to supplement your fundies studying. Between fundies, anime studying, drawing from imagination, just feel your way into what kind of routine gives you the most gains. Anime studying will be more beneficial the more you understand fundies and theory simply because you have more tools on how to examine art and deconstruct things. Really, all this advice would benefit you much more the more intermediate of an artists are. Learning to see is absolutely most important.

Every digital artist uses this trick there's no problem with it.

You do have nice lines though, most of these are laid down with a purpose and aren't just chicken scratched to hell. That's good draftsmanship. If you want to take it further then draw mega clean. Or you can do some practice in pen, where you're not allowed to erase and all marks are permanent.

I think just about anyone can "trace really well" considering you're just drawing over lines someone's already made. There's no thinking involved. It turns to shit when you draw freehand because you're not used to drawing freehand. The only solution is to keep drawing freehand until you get better. It'll look like shit until then.

Hello fellow anime students!

I came asking for help! Little introduction first: I've just returned from a almost 2 year hiatus and decided to take things diferently. And it seems it's working really well!
Im taking my time to really be sure of what im doing on each step, but it seems that the next one isnt that clear to me now. Pic related is where im stuck atm.

I've decided to color it flat with de saturated colors, wich seems to be how most manga/anime artists do. How should i proceed from now? I tried to lay down the shadows
but it didn't work, and iv'e noticed that most artists kinda dont make rough shadows, everything looks kinda even iluminated and the highlights are where the contrast lies.

Anyway, if you guys have a tutorial on that, or maybe recommend artists that make this kinda environment, with a bunch of stuff. I want to make a super rendered background. Thanks a lot for any help you can give :D.

PS. Process steps from artists are super nice to study from, if you have anything that you think can help, please sugest! Thank you!

I would be in awe of myself if I could draw like this. This is really great. The hair is textured brilliantly, the perspective is there, the suit looks cool and the proportions are on point. Is this an existing character, or did you draw this from imagination?

But I’m not demonstrating “my” good moral character or correctness, this is completely anonymous. Do you think anytime shows support for a cause where others can see it isnvirtue signaling?? I know there’s no way to prove it but I genuinely just actually care about this and want it to be visible and don’t get any boost to my ego by doing this.

Sarah Simblets book of anatomy photos is really good reference if your oracting the human form. Don’t try to copy just proko or Loomis way if doing things, really try drawing a lot of different people and see what ways end looking good to you or not. The method will be mostly the same but some of the details will vary. Even in Loomis books there is leeway with what the exact promotions should be on people’s bodies and faces. >>4654350
Inyuyasha is great, I’m sure you can get back into a better flow of daring things soon. You’re doing great.

This looks good, are you looking at soul eater or something? Can you draw eyes consistently in different expression ?

You know, 99.9% of chinks who draw in this style don't do this type of complex construction when they draw. They just wing it and that's where the fundies kick in, they're able to give the simplistic characters a very real type of volume and weight just because they are that good.
Point is, just draw. And i say that in the most non-ironic way possible
