You should really give up at drawing if it's a constant source of mental anguish and you don't like the actual act of drawing.

Sort of sounds like you like the idea of being an artist more than actually drawing.

I think most people here suffer from depression. I also think they aren't doing anything to manage or solve their depression, instead picking up really bad habits like dunning kruger, logical fallacies, etc. They don't want to have to work for their success, they just want the success automatically. Because they only want to "be good" they don't actually enjoy drawing because to them, it's only a means to an end.

But try telling that to an /ic/ beg. They'll just snap at you, ask you to post your work, call you a crab or something equally made up.

i could replace that shit with any of the things i spend most of my time doing except the difference is that art is actually worth while

How do you know if art is your "passion" or you're really just doing it because >you like the idea of being an artist? Asking for a friend

Your drive imo. You need to have that natural urge to draw, opposed to having to force yourself 'because you have to'.
I get antsy when I haven't been able to draw for a 2-3 days.

I work hard regardless If I'm feeling sad or not because its an habit for me, but how are you supposed to deal with this? Diet/Exercise/Sleep does nothing for me and I have never seen anyone on medication that doesn't turn into a dysfunctional living corpse soon after, therapy also feels like a meme to extort money out of someone else's misery.

You hate going to sleep because still want to draw more

You look forward to drawing. Also, studying fundamentals doesn't make you want to kill yourself because you know you're improving your art.

>> No.4643386

You can learn to enjoy it more.
I sometimes dread the start, but I know that once I start I'll get sucked in. That's why you need discipline. Just do everything according to your schedule (but have a healthy, sustainable one) without thinking. It's the same with exercise, I sometimes don't feel like it, but I know I'll feel better after going to the gym, even if I'm tired afterwards. When learning drawing, try to find ways to make yourself excited, for example trying a new technique, choosing an interesting subject for your drawing, try to be creative about finding joy

I don't like the act of drawing in itself but I like having created something someone might like as a result and find it really rewarding. I find the actual process extremely frustrating and just like you've described, a constant source of mental anguish. Is there hope for me as an ''artist''? Is wanting praise a good enough motivation in creating art?

>> No.4643524

I love the process of drawing, it's actually quite therapeutic. Only getting myself into it and finishing a piece is the difficult part where I start hating it.

like you should stop working out, if you don't enjoy the workout but only want to be in good shape, right?
