For me it's always been the opposite, I hate how colored pages remove the intense contrast. It feels less surreal.

for me it was just how cluttered some of the pages get, part 5 was a mess to read. MHA has a similar problem in certain arcs.

The point of comics is to tell stories.
The best comics are not the ones with the most beautiful art, but the ones with the most meaningful art.

And on those grounds, manga artists get points for sheer volume. As far as stories go, being able to put out 200 pages a year is definitely much better than 48.

But here's some Milo Manara.

I understand that point. But then why do the best illustrators (Wood, Wrightson) always have me coming back for more, regardless of the storytelling?

That's an interesting take, i personally don't like Araki's face too much i feel the model type face lose it's uniqueness and becomes boring pretty fast and his hatching makes it look stiff. But i don't know maybe i should give him another try, his fashion sense is fantastic.

Here are my personal absolute favorites:
>Moebius
>Alberto Breccia
>Katsuhiro Otomo
>Jose Antonio Munoz
Some old masters:
>Winsor McCay, Hal Foster, Wally Wood, Milton Caniff, Alex Toth, Alex Raymond, Burne Hogarth, Bernard Krigstein
Check these out too:
>David Mazzucchelli, Kerascoet, Cyril Pedrosa, JH Williams III, P. Craig Russell, Lorenzo Mattotti, Nicolas de Crecy, Oscar Zarate, Taiyo Matsumoto, Daisuke Igarashi
These artists have/had their strengths and weaknesses, but they're all pretty much top tier.
I have many other favorites that don't rank with these, but I tried to keep it brief.

This is far and away the best page in the entirety of Corto Maltese. It's all downhill from here. Second best is probably in the episode that takes place in the streets of Ireland.

Jorge Zaffino, Joe Kubert, Jordi Bernet, Ryoichi Ikegami, Katsuya Terada, Gary Gianni, Jaime Hernandez, and Francois Boucq are all incredibly good.
For those that do things a bit different, check out Philippe Druillet, James Stokoe, Brendan McCarthy, Gianni de Luca, Sergio Toppi, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Suehiro Maruo.
If you have an interest in architecture, check out Francois Schuiten and Tsutomu Nihei.

Nobody reads this shit. This is like a bunch of people talking about literature and everyone claims they read Plato and Infinite Jest for brownie points but what they actually write is teenage werewolf romance YA shit. Everyone always names this classic shit yet absolutely nobody actually shows any of it as an influence. It's literally all posing and lying on the internet. I'm absolutely certain at this point that people regularly recommend things they haven' t even read, let alone paid for. But they're the biggest fans ever.

It makes me particularly sick with Ghibli, everyone' s crazy about Ghibli but all they get from it is the aesthetics, it seems llke nobody gets what's underneath the animation. It's as surface level as it gets.
