Is there anyone here doing something different with relative success? I feel like puking.

I'm certain you'll cry about any of the other alternatives as being "gay shit" as well, so you might as well just give up now.

You expressed yourself clearly. I understood you and I meant what I said. What you listed are called 'niches'. Niches can be incredibly vague, often around styles (hipster, kawaii, etc.) or very targeted, often around keywords (deer shirt, alien shirt, etc.). 90% of shirt designs are not based around quirky, nerdy, or pop culture stuff, but a sizable chunk of it is.

I make around $2k/mo with shirts. It can be lucrative if you're willing to approach it smartly. But if you're already complaining about drawing quirky / pop culture designs now and bitch about how it's all "gay shit", then I genuinely think you should give up now and not bother going down this road.

You have to be retarded to buy overpriced tshirts in the first place so it makes sense that the designs pandering to them are terrible.

Yeah if you need someone else to give you ideas you're basically just asking them to do your work for you as far as art shit goes, specially in these tshirt shit where it seems like it's all about the idea and art quality takes a hard backseat.

If they were asking about specific knowhow like how to research keywords or the like then that's probably more valid advise to ask for since a lot of petend then to fail not because of their art but because they don't know what the fuck they're doing.

The kind of people who buy custom t-shirts are cringy "nerds" so it makes sense that most custom shirt designs cater to them. If that's not your thing then find another niche.

Isn't 95% of t-shirts design outright stolen or plagiarized shit from famous IPs?

So it basically boils down to keyword research. I used EtsyRank (paid tool, but very affordable) to gauge the stats of different niche keywords on Etsy, and extrapolated my keyword research to other sites like Redbubble, Teepublic, Amazon, etc., where I would design shirts around what people were buying - niches that had relatively high demand / low competition (based on my best educated guess).

Putting in the time to do this AND being able to design a good shirt** means that you're in a very advantageous position. Most people that do this actually can't design well, and those that can design well tend to not do their research. From there, you can try your hand at Print on Demand sites. I did this for a long time, and eventually teamed up with a print shop I knew to sell my designs on Amazon Prime, of which a handful of designs are now bringing in a majority of this income.

As >>4625536 suggested, I cannot write you a step by step guide. You will have to figure it out for yourself. All I can say is to try your best to design around low comp / high demand niches, and to strike a balance between quality & quantity with your designs. Pouring more time & effort into a design does not mean it will sell more than something you shat out in 20 minutes.

**Being able to draw well =/= being able to design a good T shirt. A good mindset to have is that it's better to make the right design rather than the best design. Pic related is a classic - they're pretty simple figures but it's composed very well and works great on apparel. It just works. Use mockups while you work to see how it'll work on a shirt.

>>4625549
All the time. I stopped caring years ago. I could probably find thousands of links to products featuring stolen designs - there's very little you can do about it. It happens to everyone's designs that sell.

I don't understand this niche research... I looked up and saw that "50th birthdat tees" are sough after. My only hope is to try and one up the ones that already exist? If try something original there will be no demand at first, people won't be looking for something they never saw.
Sorry if this sounds stupid, lol

>>4623567
some of these are cheesy but there are some really cool ones in between, also its a system where you can upload your design and they sell it for you :-)

>My only hope is to try and one up the ones that already exist?
In a sense, yes. Find niches & keywords that have low competition / high demand, but everything will have some competition - it's on you to beat them by designing a better shirt. For example, if someone wanted to buy a 'communisim shirt', most people would draw some sickle & hammer or some shit. Do you have the creativity and cleverness to come up with something better, like the image here >>4625926 ?

> If try something original there will be no demand at first, people won't be looking for something they never saw.
This is definitely the issue, for sure. Though it is possible to design completely original shirts that aren't tied to any of this keyword / niche stuff, but then it's completely on you to advertise & sell then (which is much more difficult). Usually the people who do this have some strong online presence.

Most designs are not. If I had to make an educated ballpark guess, I'd wager around 25% of all designs are pop culture shirts.
