IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make YOURSELF feel proud.

READ THE STICKY if you're new or need guidance.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES - try ~1000px, <1.1mb

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Some ground rules to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

>if you are /beg/
NO FUN ALLOWED
Don't ever give advice.
You can relate and share your hardships with other /beg/s, but never give them advice.
If you MUST give advice, start the reply off with "I'm beg, but what worked for me is..."

>Before you post your work
1. Every person giving advice here expects for you to have at least read some of the sticky, and that you already know what you should be doing to improve.
In that light, replies such as "grind more fundamentals" are perfectly viable advice.
We expect you to know what the general fundamentals are (gesture, anatomy, perspective, drapery, etc.), and we expect you to know where you can find resources to practice these subjects.
Sometimes literally the only good advice to give is to practice more and improve you technique.

2. DO NOT post your 5 minute sketches that you didn't put much thought into. If you do post them then make sure to ask for SPECIFIC advice on a specific subject.
If you post a doodle and ask "where did i go wrong" or "how should I continue from here", expect to get meme replies such as "Loomis".

Follow these simple rules and the generals will become much more productive for both the /beg/s and the people giving advice.

If you draw the same exact picture of a cat you'll only get good at drawing that one picture of that particular cat. If you have a lot of pictures of one cat and you analyze it and study it sitting, laying, jumping, cat in shadow, cat in light, cat anatomy, you should eventually get really good at drawing cats in general.

Quick question lads, I do lots of drawings of people from both reference and from imagination. They are mostly terrible but some turn out alright but my biggest problem is the time it takes to do them. For any of my drawings to be "okay" it takes me like an hour per figure. Draw more anatomy. Preferably pick up a book on it. The bodies and faces are really not correct. It looks like there has been no underlying construction. The shading you just have to accept that its worthless, you have to start from scratch there.

Start sketching more, and don't try to pawn a sketch of as art work. Also, instagram thots are really not a good source of photo reference.

>how do i know if i'm doing it right? how am i supposed to know what to do when nobody's teaching me?
Compare your current skills to the skills you had one month ago
Only compare yourself to your past self
Conciously study. Understand
Always study with purpose or make purpose. Never just study.
Make something finished to your best ability first. Use it as an anchor point. Compare it to some art you like and the ref. What is missing? What difference in porportions? What is simplified and what is detailed? Redline your own art to correct it. Enforce new habits and memory by repeating them in the news work. Dont mass consume fundies. Pick something and really bunker on it until you get it, then create something using it. Just grinding a lot of fundies will be a long and slow road since you wont retain the teachings in memory (another reason to create).
Create > reflect > study > create(+ apply study)
Every time you create, pick the current subject thats most lacking and you are worst at (color, form, shape, design ect.) And raise that from your biggest weakness to one of your strengths
Good luck anons and remember to have fun while creating

It also looks like you're using contour lines without really thinking of the form, which is particularly noticeable on the abdomen. Our eyes see lines, and we assemble them in the head into a form. We need to see enough lines, and in the right places, to get the illusion of depth and volume. Line art is challenging to get there with those goals, so work on your accuracy (draw the foot AND the toes, for instance), and play with line weight and thickness to give visual cues for our brains to see volume.
Animation is the best way to show volume, by moving the figure in 2-d space, but for now, work on your accuracy, and line quality/properties. Also, draw with more confidence, and draw ONE line for the contour. This is all a bit horse before the cart, you have some work left to do on capturing contour and details, and proportions, and getting some confidence. You're copping out on the hands, feet, and heads.

I added line weight, put in more line confidence, worked on more details like the toes and fingers.
Where do I go from here?
Did I mess up?
Does it still look flat?

Separate your lights and shadows better. Use 2 values at first and concentrate on proper shapes.

Also your lights are too dark and shadows are too light.

This is my second ever attempt at rendering anything. I'm relying on a soft airbrush and a clipping layer (aka alpha inheritance) to smooth out the gradients between highs mids and lows. I don't really like the result and I'm not sure where to go from here. Any pointers welcome.

(I am aware of the left wing being a bit wonky in terms of perspective/construction.)

Practice getting proportions right. Do more planning before drawing the final lines. The term is "construction". For example, some people study human skeletons and muscles. That helps you visualize the 3D object in your mind as you draw it.

contour lines are not actually wrapping around the figure. take a look at the lines of the upper limb. why are some basically flat across the figure and others rounded? also draw the contour lines in one stroke - that's another reason yours look flat.

big part of traditional art is photographer job and I think this is where all this screen space technics coming from.
