IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make YOURSELF feel proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES - try ~1000px, <1.1mb

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

If so how can I do this smooth transition in value and edges. Whenever I true smooth brush it looks ugly.
What techniques, tools, brushes should I be using especially for the left black and white one.

-feet

How do I use the rest of my arm to draw?
I've mostly been trying to do things on my tablet (Wacom Intuos) because I only own mechanical pencils and notebook paper, but I can only like, move my fingertips when I'm trying to hold a pencil and actually using my wrist or my whole arm to draw feels strange and awkward.
I'm looking at all these people drawing all their forms and shapes and stuff and connecting them together to make whole faces and bodies while I can barely draw an even square or remotely round circle.

I mean, my handwriting is barely legible, so I feel like I have a lot of work to do just penmanship in general, hell, should I maybe even learn an entirely different way to hold a pencil?
I have triangle grips on my mechanical pencils and have it resting on the side of my middle finger while I hold it with the tip of my thumb and index finger, is that bad?

Or should I just give up and accept that I just never learned how to even write legibly because all my work outside of the very very occasional exam that requires handwriting or notes that I take in class but never actually read, because simply writing things down helps me to remember it better even if I never look at my notes, and outside of that I use a keyboard for practically all communication in my life.

So the other day I decided to go through the /ic/ archives, looking at progress charts threads from 2018-2020, what I found was every artist that got good quickly stated that they commonly did studies of artists they like.
That's the key to getting good, doing copies of artists you like, even copying their basic sketches to get a feel. I did one today and my sketches got way fucking better.
I mean ya still gotta do the basic fundies grind but make sure to do studies of artists you like in between, also have an inspo chart of artists you want to replicate is a good idea.

i was having the same issue a while ago coming from a background of mostly doodling in notebooks in grade school which was done entirely with my wrist. my handwriting is garbage also. the thing is it's entirely how trained your muscle is, its going to feel awkward and lines will feel not good or smooth, but eventually it will feel more natural. you just gotta keep doing it until its part of your muscle memory, its the same as if you were to try to learn to write with the opposite hand, its not like you dont know how to write, the muscle just isnt used to fine movements. i actually do hold my pencil slightly differently when drawing as well but i think thats less important as long as youre doing the major movements with your arm

I want to draw cute anime people. I'm all for "tools, not rules", BUT at the same time I want a solid enough skill foundation that I can efficiently and quickly create appealing art from imagination only. Right now I'm a shitter and it takes me 5 hours of drawing the same thing over and over through iteration after iteration, to produce a stiff character in a simple pose even with using software to manipulate layers.

Not shitting on you because you can always improve but for sure you have an issue. And before anyone jumps in, how long it takes you to draw something does matter. A sketch of something ..a dog let's say shouldnt take 30 mins if you are going to reline it with pen and paint it etc Hope that makes sense
Same goes for ditigal art, your sketch should be really quick lining it should take way longer but not 5 hours long and after you gotta add color etc etc
If you drawing something super detailed I get it but a normal drawing should take reasonable time to draw something else after :)
Just do your fundementals and studies to improve your basic drawing skills to be faster and better

Scientific here. Automatic drawing is actually an excellent technique so you develop unconscious artistic skills. And you might ask "how can one have unconscious skills" and the answer yes, the nervous system is divided in 2, the central and the peripheral one, the peripheral one (on which the so called muscle memory is built) can work almost by itself if no conscious thought is enabled. The automatic drawing mimicks a situation where no conscious intent of drawing exists and the intuitive part of the brain is given total freedom. Keep at it faggot, you'll see the magic soon enough.

My niggas. I'm the same. I'm already at a high paying job but it sucks the life out of me. I initially chose an art degree but moved to a more development oriented course. I consider it a smart decision in case I fail but damn does it make me miserable. A well drawn art gives me better feelings than a well written code.

Lesson we have here bros is to follow your heart and not where you're good at.

Do it again, this time try to sketch out the gesture of the entire head in as few lines as possible. Big, sweeping, confident lines that define the outer bounds of it. Turn it rightside up and check, then back upside down and fix it if it isn't right. Then do the same but use your big gesture lines to map the features of the face. Repeat, going from big detail to small detail. Try this a few times.

Sorry for blogposting, but I've been trying and failing to get into digital art for around twelve years. I got a new tablet to try again, played around with Sai2's brushes, and the artistic pencil brush is so close to drawing with an actual pencil that I'm able to draw as if I were doing it on paper. I was smiling the entire time I was drawing on a digital canvas.

Feels good man, feels good.

Man that makes no sense. You literally just find out how many X's is in Y, open sketchdaily or similar and draw. Its even fun. And if you can't figure out how to do shit, you screencap and post it here, or watch a guide. For me personally I tend to immediately start counting heads when the figures come up.
This also has the added advantage of having you actually draw men instead of literally only knowing how to spend half a day drawing a single cute anime girl that's probably not even as cute as Asuka, Rei or any other actually cute anime girl.

You download Unity or Unreal and try your best making prototypes of old games.
Any other engine is a meme and both Unity and Unreal have their pros and cons so it really doesn't matter which one you chose.
Unity is good and getting you quick into making games but it has its stigma.
After that you should try recreating 1 classic game every week, wrap up project, and abandon it (or release it for free if you actually didn't use that classic game's assets)
When you reach the 4-5 weeks you are probably good enough to understand how programming kinda works and you should get started into making your own week long prototypes and remain there until you either hit gold or get an idea for big ass game you want to pursue.

also don't go to /agdg/ they will crab you to death

I love this one. The unfinished sketch look with detailed face and roughly blocked out body/hair is an interesting style, something you could work with and take further. another /beg/ here, I started draw a box and still plan on finishing it, (only stopped because I've been busy with work, the lessons have been pretty fun) I would definitely recommend it if you don't have a clue how to start, it taught me line quality, some form, and some construction so far and it's at least given me an idea of how to draw things
