I`m having a hard time convincing myself to continue making art, but I think its mainly because Ive gotten too critical of myself when making mistakes. Larning new techniques now just feels emotionally painful.
How can I fix this? I feel too hard on my ability to create that its starting to affect my enjoyment of making art entirely. What can I do to mitigate this without becoming conplacent?

Same here.
I'm that far that i can't even start anything more complex than just a few lines on paper thus i never make any artwork.
I'd say just keep drawing and grinding for the sake of it until it blows over.
Arguing or thinking about it won't help.

stop coming to this place. not a joke, once i took a break from 4chan i realized that nobody here knows what the fuck they're talking about and the "you have to hate art to make it" mentality is not only useless but actively harmful to your progression as an artist.

Stop being a bitch. If you try your best everyday you'll eventually see some improvement. I'm /beg/ and think everything I do is hideous, but things are less hideous today than they were 2 weeks ago, that's the fun part. This whole "Being too critical of mayself to the point of sadness" is literally retarded. You wouldn't be "too critical of yourself" after lifting weights for 1 year and being "still incapable of benching 300 pounds", that's just stupid.

Keep being critical of your art though. If it's trash, you should treat it like trash.

All you have to do is practice and you'll improve. Don't worry about it

I completely understand the logic behind this. I really do. I just feel like everytime I want a break from grinding I just want to be able to enjoy the work I make.
I feel like I have to come up with something original anytime I open up a canvas and that it has to look impressive somehow.
Worse yet, its exhausting analysing every piece of art I make or look at in an effort to improve. Im burned out on the idea of improving that I dont even know how to apply myself. Shit sucks.

self-critisizm is a tool you can use to get better. If it starts to make you worse, in your case wanna quit stop using it for a while.
>>4586380
Treat your "bad" art as a stepping stone, it's a precious thing that you made in order to get better.

you need to stop focusing too much on results and more on process

wrong. don't treat it like trash. identify the unsuccessful and successful elements and correct your mistakes in the next drawing. no point in needlessly beating yourself up, there's a difference between thinking "this didn't work, and here's why" and "this is trash its shit and im shit". it's the same difference between constructive and destructive criticism that will hurt you in the long run.

Draw for fun then. Gesture drawing, blind contour drawings, designing your own silly characters, making comics, stick figure animations etc. there are so many ways to just relax and have fun drawing that I couldn't possibly list them all. Do these until you're inspired to tryhard again.

As I said earlier, stop being a bitch. YOU get better after every shitty drawing.
