IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make YOURSELF feel proud.

previous >>4582043

READ THE STICKY if you're new or need guidance.

Sticky: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES - try ~1000px, <1.1mb

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Some ground rules to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

>if you are /beg/
Don't ever give advice.
You can relate and share your hardships with other /beg/s, but never give them advice.
If you MUST give advice, start the reply off with "I'm beg, but what worked for me is..."

>Before you post your work
1. Every person giving advice here expects for you to have at least read some of the sticky, and that you already know what you should be doing to improve.
In that light, replies such as "grind more fundamentals" are perfectly viable advice.
We expect you to know what the general fundamentals are (gesture, anatomy, perspective, drapery, etc.), and we expect you to know where you can find resources to practice these subjects.
Sometimes literally the only good advice to give is to practice more and improve your technique.

2. DO NOT post your 5 minute sketches that you didn't put much thought into. If you do post them then make sure to ask for SPECIFIC advice on a specific subject.
If you post a doodle and ask "where did i go wrong" or "how should I continue from here", expect to get meme replies such as "Loomis".

Follow these simple rules and the generals will become much more productive for both the /beg/s and the people giving advice

Alright /beg/, let's have an exercise:

I'll post a few references, your goal is to encapsulate the figures in each reference only using the extreme points of the figure.
Meaning, take the most extreme points of the figure, and connect the points with lines while perserving the correct angle.
See pic related for an example.

After you're done, take the shape you drew and overlay it on the reference, see how accurate you were, see where you went wrong.

For hard mode, have the reference on a different screen or away from your canvas. For extra hard mode, make the canvas a different size from the reference.
Have fun!

Hi /beg/, lemme preface this with an apology, that I didn't reduce the pic related to 1000px, in my defence, I am not sure as too how too do that, while maintaining the length x width ratio

Would you consider me as a /beg/ginner artist? A critique of my work would be greatly appreciated. In the dragon's case, I am uncomfortably aware of the issues of the parrellel lines not being quite as parallel as I would have liked, also the under scales don't disappear around the corners as would be liked. The shading is minimal. Ink is quite a new medium too me, line work isn't quite there yet.

This is my most recent piece, the pic that comes after is a piece I did a week ago. In the girls case, the face is rather basic unfortunately, and the linework is not as good as I'd like. A big issue with it is the feet, they're too small, and the folds in the fabric are rather unrealistic

So thank you /beg/, for taking the time to critique my work, and offer your advice, It is greatly appreciated

How is this a study? How do you apply concepts to copying a page of someone else's art?

Besides the perspective on that page is wack. You're learning from a bad source because the artist is watering down their own knowledge of perspective in exchange for a faster or more cohesive drawing. I'd suggest using actual photos or better yet, real life.

However you choose to go about drawing, like if your attempting to learn perspective by copying other artist's art, you should at least opt to draw the objects that are actually in perspective, like the buildings on the far left or bottom, instead of the giant, flat, perspectiveless square in the middle.

>> No.4585150

I dunno what to tell you, but I think any artist will get absorbed and take up to 3 hours even on a headshot. No, especially because it's a headshot, the head is the main focus so you feel like you MUST get it right and spend more time fixing it.

Once you branch out to full bodies you'll surely find a way to rush the face and draw it with minimal features

That's what a study is, you take someone elses art and try to break it down. You see people do it with paintings all the time. I learned one point perspective, saw how another artist did it and tried to recreate it.

I'd suggest starting with learning to 'draw what you see'. Forgo any preconceived understanding of concepts/fundies and just draw line for line what's in the reference. Really it's good to be mindful of fundies but you shouldn't allow them to dictate lines and i'd say they aren't really needed for pure reference drawing. Best example of this would be in the reference his belt side on our left is slightly higher then the his belt side on our right but in yours it's the drastic opposite.

Disregard the absolute /beg/s saying not beg. First of all, your value range is way too high in most places, you'd think "I want contrast so let's have black and white" but that is usually too much and it makes things unappealing. It's fine to have these areas in some places but you have it everywhere. Secondly, you gotta work on your edges, you probably are a very unconfident person (like me) and don't wanna commit bold strokes, but you gotta take the plunge and give some strong definition. So work on values and edges.
Props for the "legs" though, definitely the best part of this by far.

>Follow these simple rules and the generals will become much more productive for both the /beg/s and the people giving advice

no. a lot of the time people here dont understand that in the early stages of drawing you need a certain amount of mileage before any technical information will be useful or have meaning. you haave to learnt to walk before you can run and get the feel of a pen or pencil in your hand and an idea of what you like to look at and draw. It's like buying a $500 brush before learning to draw a stick man, TECHNICALLY there's nothing really wrong with it but it's absolutely pointless since you aren't able to use that tool to it's full potential and thus get no value out of using it.

I don't fucking remember what it's called but you need to look into the effects distance has on like contrast and clarity. The further things are away the "blurrier" they should be and the more their tones blend together. Everything on your picture has the exact same resolution and clarity so it appears everything is close by and makes the whole thing look flat as fuck. I hope that i explained that ok?
