Type 2 here. I do enjoy drawing but not to the level that some people enjoy drawing and I don't have the time to dedicate. And when it's the weekend or something and I decide to spend some real time studying I still can't do it; I get physically and mentally exhausted and need to take a break.

I think it’s misleading to young artists to make them feel as though getting good will be all fun and that you won’t make it if you don’t love everything about learning to draw.

Making it takes years of hard work and will often be very frustrating, the difference between those who make it and those who don’t is that the ones who make it have ability to push through the discomfort and not give up where others would

Type 1. Actually have to force myself to take breaks with workrave because I gave myself carpal tunnel and shoulder tendonitis from drawing too much without stretching.

I don't think everything has to be finished and polished, definitely every actual project and any study for learning realism/color/values needs to be finished. As long as the goal of the study is reached, it doesn't need to be completely finished. Like a timed study or a quick anatomy study are just going to look however they're going to look.

I used to draw a lot in the past(almost every day) but then a lot of things happened and I kind of lost the spark.
People say that you need to draw very often to keep your skill. I can't say I'm improving but I'm definitely not regressing. All that technical stuff just comes out naturally, it's on a muscle level. I don't think I made it and I doubt I can at this point, but I love drawing and I still can spend a whole day consumed by the process.

"Type 1" and "Type 2" are not meaningfully different. Even parts of Type 3 feel too similar to the latter two. Do studies "to improve my drawings" and do studies "so I can be good at drawing" are the same thing worded slightly different.

What i'm taking from your post is that you only find the studying aspect of drawing to be hard, while i'm referring not just to studying but the process of drawing entirely. I could find ground in your argument if you expect artists to push through the "discomfort" for years until they make it, but realistically I don't think anybody is going to do that.

It teaches you how to finish an art piece and it teaches you the drawing process, which is definitely necessary for a beginner to learn. However as a beginner you could have a value study you work on for a whole month to get to finished level and practice the process, while doing other studies and pieces through the month on a daily or weekly basis, and just coming back to the big study throughout the day when you're not doing others.

I'm a mix of all 3, I wish I could draw more, I love drawing but I generally have no idea about what to draw (usually ideas flow randomly and I get random spikes which occur rarely). Sometimes I got urges to draw but im stuck at the concept part. So I end up with lots of unfinished sketches or I do anatomy studies instead. Though, once the idea is there I can draw for consecutive hours without taking breaks.
