- Browsing /ic/ for reasons other than free books and videos.
- Hoarding said books and videos instead of practicing.
- Misinterpretting "Just Draw" as literally drawing without purpose, reference, instruction or feedback.
- Misinterpretting "Draw From Imagination" or your first video of kim jong gi as having to train without reference or construction and getting it perfect in ink first try, rather than a secondary goal after years of drawing from reference and practicing drawing said reference from memory at different angles.
- Misinterpretting "Grind Fundies" as drawing 6000 boxes instead of drawing whatever you want and including exercises from books as a daily routine to improve these drawings.
- Complaining about Loomis because you don't want to draw in his style
- Trying to find japanese, korean or chinese versions of loomis, bridgman, hampton etc and wasting time translating them just because their style is similar to anime.

If you procrastinate.

Procrastinating is a sign of poor emotional self-regulation. The opposite of being professional.

>I procrastinate even on sleeping

That's actually pretty common. I ironically procrastinate on sleeping because I dread waking up feeling tired and with a boatload of shit to do. The solution to that, for me, is to create fun morning where I get to chill for an hour first. You might sleep-procrastinate because you're habitually on Youtube or whatever.

I recommend the podcast by Tim Pychyl. Besides that, you need to figure out what strategies work for you. For example, for some people it works to create challenges because they procrastinate out of boredom. Other people need the opposite and need to set a very low bar of expectations because they procrastinate due to fear of failure.

oh man, thank you for a thoughtful reply, I'll try out the 1 hour chilling after waking up thing, because that's exactly what I'm feeling right now, I had an unproductive day today and stuff got pilled up to tomorrow, and the thought of having to deal with that when I wake up make me a bit anxious, hopefully the dedicated relaxation time will give me a sense of control, as I tend be unproductive the first hour anyway

I definitely fall more in inaction from dread than anything, so I'll try and lower the amount of things in my to-do-list too, I really had a week's streak of getting things done, including drawing, too but I've really gone off the rail since Sunday, hopefully I can learn more about how I work to make my productivity more consistent and sustainable

thank you again for this, I'll give tim pychyl a listen

Glad it's useful. Even if my comment makes sense, it still takes a lot of experimenting and adjusting and self-reflecting to gradually overcome procrastination, kinda like how you might know what a great diet and exercise routine is yet it takes a long time to build the habit if you start from the couch potato quest line.

I find focusmate.com helpful too, but they only give you 3x free sessions/week unless you subscribe.

this is interesting and if i sketched during that hour it could be a great way to start the day only issue is i sleep very little during night and i wake up already at 4 30 am

I've heard of three methods:
1. Make a scheduled time for doing the thing you're procrastinating on, thus building a regular habit of doing it
2. Find pleasure, however small, in the thing to do. You're less likely to put away an activity if you like doing it.
3. Whenever it comes to mind, actively fight against the idea of putting it off for something else, and start working on it. In others words: Just do it(tm)

yeah I understand, the process of becoming more productive in general is a long road, on a side note, the more physical responsibilities, such as exercising, I have been able to integrated them into my routine with a much easier time, I think it's because I tied body weight workout with the first I do when I wake up, and biking to my commute, and that made them a lot easier
