If YOU yes you had ACTUAL REAL GAINS in your ability to draw humans because you grinded boxes or perspective, please post your work here. A lot of fundiesfags talk a big game about how fundies lets you easily draw anything from imagination, but then they get awfully shy when you ask them to post their work. I will admit that fundiesfags do occasionally come through and post good work, but most of the people who do that attribute their gains to anatomy studies, not to Scott Robertson style stuff. When I watch pros draw, they never draw out actual boxes or perspective grids, which is why I'm suspicious that it actually helps.
Just a confused noob trying to make it in the world. I want to see proof with my own two eyes that something actually works before I sink time into it. Thank you and God bless.

It's not about drawing a box everytime you draw, it's about understanding 3D space, and the box is the simplest 3D object, it's useful for learning, but you can understand 3D by other means.

It's useless if you want to draw humans, If you want to draw scenery it's pretty useful since every line can be interpreted as a box in some way.
I've had years of perspective training and I still can't draw humans because I don't have knowledge of the actual subject of the drawing, i.e. humans.

I have the most ACTUAL REAL GAINS when I draw the most.

Stop trying to find a way to put the least possible effort into drawing and instead put the most possible effort into it, ffs.

tl;dr JUST DRAW

Frank Frazetta learned a lot from Bridgman's Life Drawing book.
It talks a lot about simplifying the human body into cubes simple shapes and planes.

If you have ever seen frank Frazetta's stuff he has an incredible grasp on anatomy.

I'm always surprised by that one, that it doesn't look like it got touched up much
Frank had a tendency to go back and paint-over/redo paintings, to the point that the paint on the ass on one of the girls started to crack.

>Pros don't draw boxes LUL

Reading that while looking at KJG drawing exactly that on my second screen.

If you are drawing a person with a simple standing pose at a flat angle you don't need perspective fundies. As soon as you begin using cinematic angles (extreme low angles, top angles, dynamic perspective etc ...) with action poses, anatomy alone won't help you. It's gonna look flat and boring you don't visualize a bounding box in perspective.

lmao, are you joking? the painting is good but the anatomy is terrible. people on /beg/ could do better. look at the size of his head

>> No.4567986

I did the fundies and stuff. Now the slightest mistake in perspective puts me off. so usually I'll just opt for using 3d software if i'm going for complex geometry. still good to study your fundies so you can quickly paintover the work if your clients needs changes.

lots of /ic/ is retarded. Stuff from this book can technically be used for figure drawing but its mainly targeted towards concept designers and so goes in lots of details of perspective that are useless for figure drawing but not for vehicles or mechanical stuff.
If you just want to learn perspective to draw humans , pick up ''Perspective made easy''.

Blender is the bomb. Can do a lot with it.
Also consider making a 3d kit bash library.
When i first started 3d i was soo slow. But with adjusting already existing 3d models its no competition,

Just ease into it. watch a tutorial, try to use it in your work until you don't have to google the menu's anymore. then watch the next and continue.

Sketchup is very nice just it doesn't have a renderer attached which blender does have. although you can also learn a standalone render like octane or a really simple one like keyshot.

Thanks anyway, the shadow option that sketchup has is good enough for me. I remember trying to get into blender when I was 13, imagine if I actually carried through with it I wouldn’t become a 2d artist and probably end up doing 3d.

It's whatever your goals are. I all ways find new compositions i would have never discovered without a camera to turnaround the subject.
Also for a illustration like this for example. No way I was gonna draw all those circles.

My mom actually got me to grind boxes when I was a little kid by challenging me. She said if I could turn a cube then I'd really know how to draw, so I did pages and pages of cubes trying to make them at different angles. It helped my understanding of 3D space so much.

I've been doing skillshare courses, I've been watching Brent Eviston's classes. He has eveything from the fundamentals to full gesture drawing courses. Im doing his gesture drawing course right now and compared to when I started i'd say ive improved drastically from only being able to draw anime heads/faces. His courses, depending on the one you choose, are 1hr to 11hr courses broken up into 18 to 20min videos in said playlist. for me it's really good because I don't really want to read and i'd perfer a hands on approach to learning how to draw. On the left is all I could try to churn out after and hour of headaches the right is from his 3min practice reel I did. I'm still bad but hey we've gotta earn our progression
