I don't really care about creating anime specifically that much, because I like stuff that is more "cartoony", for lack of better words. I don't think the word "anime" itself is entirely as useful description either because it contains so much stuff. Obviously I know what people are generally talking about when they use this word, but I personally prefer Japanese (and in general) illustrations that is more bubbly, stylised or clean. I think that generic anime can offer lots of helpful drawing observations though that can be applied to all sorts of styles though.

The one from the pic is The Towers of Bois Maury, which is a medieval series, but his most popular work is Jeremiah, which is described as a post apoc sci fi story but the world isn't really like what you would think when you read that description. The "post apoc" comes from a racial war that tore the country apart (in fact some books deal with this more directly), but it's more like New Vegas minus the nuclear stuff.

Zdzisław Beksiński will always be my favorite artist even if what I draw is in no way related to what they made. Something about his use of dull muted colors and ominous imagery really resonates with me. Oh and H.R Geiger for the same reasons.
