The guy is such an incredible artist and such a bad teacher. You'll learn a ton more just flipping through Ken Hultgren's animal drawing.
Seriously, I got a few of his courses on coronadiscount for $3 and I still feel like I didn't get my money's worth.

Here is a rundown of what happened :

>be me
>live in France
> first year of scientific illustration course (its a two years diploma but you need to have studied at least two years before hand)
>need to find an internship as part of my cursus
>send a bunch of email in finland and Iceland because I want to work abroad
>Send one to the paleontology team at the natural history museum of helsinki
>"Anon we're currently going to publish a paper on prehistoric reefs we could use some illustrations"
>1200euros/month that's nice for an intern
>internship starts at the 29th of March
>10th of March lockdown announced
>haw shit
>need to find something in Paris
>classmate's workplace could use a second intern to make poster on vertebrates
>lets do this

That's pretty much the whole story, my internship in helsinki got canceled before I went there, then the whole boogaloo started in france. I emailed them explaining my job adn asking if they needed my help, turned out they did. Most museums dont have scientfic illustrators in their team, so it's not that hard to find a job there.
Studying scientific illustration must help quite a bit tho.

Well, next year I'll be almost fully working on my diploma project (in collaboration with a third party). I'll likely work with a french filmaker on a documentary about the neolithic. Hopefully I'll be able to work with them affter I graduate, helsinki really seems like a nice place.

I made a thesis about 19th century scientific illustration.

I've been living here since birth (well, the shitty eastern suburb but close enough) and I absolutely agree. Paris has some incredible places, museums and all but overall it's an overcrowded hellhole. Garbage all over the place, unmanaged immigration (I live near the biggest selling point of the parisian region, I know what I'm talking about, we had gunshots a few days ago). and overall unsolidarity between inhabitants are ruining the city. I really digged moving around Europe. Honestly if Suomi wasnt such a difficult language I'd consider moving to Finland.

>> No.4562362

Honestly I wont give you false hope, typical DSAA is about students, Design d'illustration scientifique is only 9, also the oldest student that I've seen being admitted into a DSAA was 26. You can still give it a shot but I would recommend to not expect anything. I genuinly think you can do without, as the teachers arent here to teach you how to draw per se, more to teach you how to adapt to the demands of museums and scientific institutions. There's a lot of graphic design too, some students really dont like that. Very traditionnal scientific illustrations like anatomy and naturalism stuff are a small part of the course, and we mostly learn by ourselves, the different projects are opportunities to push ourselves to do cool stuff, otherwise you barely get better. If you can draw, try assembling a good portfolio and send it to multiple museums in Europe, in fact most scientific illustrators around the world are self taught or have classic art backgrounds. The importance of art schools is quite inflated. I hope this was helpful.
