You can try adding a light source defining tonal wash to these; could look good. Simple blocked in shadow shapes with a midtone for example. You could try watered down ink; graphite powder or watercolor.
I would experiment digitally or using 'failed' drawings prior to committing to enhancing a quality piece.

Paper that will properly support wet mediums will invariably cost more. Initial exploratory experimentation can be done on lower quality paper that will buckle somewhat. You can also thinly coat paper with gesso if you want to work on larger pieces. Cardboard is another option. Find a cheaper solution you are happy with because you'll never get loose with the worry of cost hovering over your head.
Watercolor paper can also be reused if you're using watercolor; you can soak it in the sink or tub and dry it flat.

Thanks. I worked with 8B graphite and I was surprised that it didn't go as dark as I wanted to without really pressing down hard on the paper. Maybe it's because my pencils are very cheap and low quality.
I made the background a bit darker to make the highlights pop out but it ended up just lowering the contrast.
Slowly learning from mistakes I suppose, thanks for your advice.
