IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

Some ground rules to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

>No rules lol
/beg/inner posting is encouraged.
Every point of view is valid even if you were a day into art.
You MUST give advice and/or critique other people's work in order to have healthy interactions with each other so we all can make it.

>Before you post your work
1. It's true that the sticky is a bit outdated and most people don't care for reading it or even do the excerise of the upside down Stravinsky so if that is your case you've come to the right place,
people in here is waiting for you to post your work and give you proper advice. In that light, replies such as "grind more fundamentals" are strongly discouraged since it doesn't help anybody to get better.
We DON'T expect you to know what the general fundamentals are (gesture, anatomy, perspective, drapery, etc.), and we DON'T expect you to know where you can find resources to practice these subjects.
We are happy to provide you those tools in this thread.

2. DO POST your 5 minute sketches that you didn't put much thought into. It doesn't really matter if you're asking for a SPECIFIC advice on a specific subject. You might as well post no text whatsoever along with your work.
If you post a doodle and ask "where did i go wrong" or "how should I continue from here", meme replies such as "Loomis" are strongly discouraged, we don't make fun of one and other here.

Follow these simple rules or maybe not but always remember to be nice to /beg/s and the people giving advice at all times.

Friendly reminder that in order to be a great artist you most first learn how to construct penises from all perspectives. Both solid and flaccid.

Drawing the soft edges of a penis will help you understand form and perspective much better than drawing heads. Lets face it, most of you have rarely drawn a penis, and this is why you're in ngmi status. Notice that all great artists of ancient of drawing penises.

Hey man, I know the feeling.
If that's your work from reference then I agree that that is not the work of a very very new beginner, so, good job on that. However your work from imagination is lagging quite a bit behind. Which is pretty normal, drawing from imagination is a lot harder than drawing from reference and you probably haven't practiced it as much.
What's an example of the sort of thing that you'd like to be able to draw from imagination? You probably just need to draw more of those things from reference.

Well, you're not really making an attempt to not symbol draw.
I think construction will just confuse you at this stage. A lot of people will disagree with me but I think you need a certain amount of mileage in order to be able to use construction effectively, and before you hit that critical point, you will just be doing fake construction without really understanding it, and you'll also be thinking so much about how construction is supposed to work that you won't be paying attention to your basic observational skills, which are what need the most work at this point.
I would recommend picking just a very small part of the reference, his eye or a finger or something, and try to draw it as accurately as you can, both the shape of it and also the shadows and surface textures you can see.

Goes for the head and the arms, Head cna be a circle arms can be lines
but overall they are good

Points. Lines. Angles. When drawing from reference you need to actually compare the points, lines, and angles in relation to each other for it to be accurate; you just need to put in more effort. For example, the point of his right nipple compared to the tip of his stomach hair is higher. The angle of his gut goes down towards the bottom right corner then there is a sharp almost 90 degree turn upward. His leg in your attempt is too short compared to his chin, ect.

While paying attention to negative space is something you should do, the real crux of your issues is just not paying enough attention, not drawing what you actually see, and not spending the appropriate amount of time the piece needs, so slow down and be diligent.

if you think of the head as a 3d object, it's surface will be made out off flat planes (pic related is from Loomis's Drawing the Head and Hands). depending on how detailed you wanna go, these planes can be thousands or just a few. They dictate where the features of the face go, you can even think of these features as being made up of planes since they're 3d objects themselves. Right now for you, I would suggest trying to find the most basic shapes of the head and to visualise them in 3d space, the loomis head is good for that. Then you can start placing the secondary forms such as the brow ridge, a simplified cube for the nose and half sphere for the mouth region.

Her mouth should be slightly open, her eyes smaller. For the nose, erase the line on the right and draw the outline on the left of it (almost a straight line) you can put light later on on the right to build the shape.
Make her nostrils point toward the nose tip.
Hair : there's a clear line where the skull is visible, don't put the shape over it, you can fade later to give a better effect
Take this with a grain of salt, I'm still kinda beg.

your problem is the same as 99% of begs you are not thinking in the forms you are just drawing the outlines/siluete, at this point even basic anatomy would make your drawing look more real not in the realistc style but rather to not look like a flat surface, but you think that just knowing the lenght of the limbs is basic anatomy.

>light comes from the top right
yet the back of his triceps only have a thin line that goes from her shoulder to her elbow, it doesn't vary his form because it seems that is a flat surface just like the lower part of her forearm, right leg, feets and face.

you see how you shaded the hat not in a vertical line but in diagonal one, thats because its has a round form, thats what you should have done for the rest of the body but you can't, because you don't know anatomy to the point that you don't know the the waist is not a flat surface and thats why you didn't shade her right side from the ribs to her lower back despite the light coming from the top right, is directly under her arms yet it's not shaded.

but keeping hearing those people that tell you lmao ''don't listen to crabs if they are telling you you art isn't qt and gmi'', you are gonna keep having the same errors and then larp about how you studied one gorillion of books but you can't improve and getting gud is black magic like you have done for the last months.

Without going into general advice of "loomis" and "learn anatomy" especially the face There are many specific things that are different from the ref and going into detail with everything would take ages. Still I would support you in getting to WLOP's level but a lot of work and human studies will be needed.

Not a bad start though, I would suggest you use a greater variety of values in your rendering becasue it is too uniform. Train your value and color observational skills because they are very much needed in painting and rendering, from this picture yours seem very much untrained.

On the lips, the lips are generally smaller than one thinks, even if they are made stronger by makeup, they never stretch to the corners of the mouth unless you wear clown makeup. The tiny dark corners of the mouth are very important parts of the face to convey the extrepssion.
