I've always enjoyed his work, if you study it there is a strong sense of design and lyricism.

He was taught by Thomas Hart Benton, who was a strong figurative artist (pic attached). It's subtle, but you can see the link in the dynamism of their work.

Oh, look at that. This ISN’T EVEN A POLLOCK PAINTING. (If anyone can give me the title, the year it was painted, a website, or any other proof that it’s a real Pollock, I will eat my hat.)

It’s just a shitty painting imitating his style. It’s almost like you idiots don’t actually know anything about how Pollock painted, and don’t actually have any right to critique his work.
It’s easy enough just by looking at OP’s pic for five seconds to see it isn’t a Pollock painting.

If you are looking for some great symbolism is his work it's no wonder you might hate him. Art always changes when things get stale and dull, and when that happens the most fresh gust of air gets the most attention. It's ok to look at pollocks paintings 2020 and say "meh, not a fan", that's what I personally do, but I can still appreciate cultural impact and him challenging traditional views of art, because that's how art evolves.
Yet everyday /ic/ shits on modern art, acting like it was painted yesterday, rambling to each other how unbelievable it is that there has existed a human who found art like this good.

Exactly. I agree with this. If /ic/ posters don't actually care if a work is Pollock's or not, though, how can they have a valid opinion on his work?

Here's the thing: it can only be confused with a splash of dirt on the door of your car if you know nothing about Pollock's work. I'm no expert in Modern art, but I could EASILY tell that OP's pic isn't a Pollock.

I always liked his paintings, they have a kind of satisfying quality to them. I also just really like the chaos.
People whop dont like Pollocks work often say "he just flung paint around! it takes no effort!" but honestly those people are just looking at art incorrectly. you should just look at the painting, and ask yourself if you like it. yes or no.
but people always over complicate it, thinking about the process over the finished painting.

Weird how all the art history majors are so insistent that we learn and respect the legacy of artists who went out of their way to mock and despoil the legacies of their own forebears. Maybe I would care more about learning the names and life stories of your scribble artists if they didn't spend their careers shouting that art is pointless and meaningless.

Btw, you guys will be studying the western anime movement in a few decades, so when I Make It I'll be sure to insert some profound symbolism into the background of my thicc girl butthole worship pieces, look forward to it.

Anyone genuinely interested in art should make a point to spit on shit like this at any opportunity. To be "okay" with the consequences of postmodernist wankery is to take a shit on the legacy of all skilled artists that has ever existed. And the only reason anyone would go out of their way actively supporting postmodernism is that they themselves are talentless hacks in the making who'd benefit from keeping the bar at toe level.
There is nothing groundbreaking in postmodernism anymore and as such nothing of value remains. It's a dead meme, fully institutionalized and constitutes an oppressive force to anyone with genuine vision.

Pollock is interesting to me simply as a conversation piece. There's not a lot of gray area with his work, people love him or hate him. Personally I like to look at his career as a whole, his earliest pieces were far from paint thrown on a canvas, but as the alcoholism and womanizing ripped through his psyche it's reflected in his style/work.
