See, I thought of Moebius and also John Blanche, too, but since the OP started with Frazetta, I immediately went to his "Death Dealer", and from there, to swords and sorcery.

Moebius and Blanche are in my mind more science fiction (alien societies, space travel, lasguns, grim dark future, etc.) than fantasy, but if you take "fantasy" to mean *literally* "fantastic things", then by all means, of course!

Before anyone gives you shit about this, I'm gonna give you props for your honesty. Look some of this is an acquired taste learned by studying the skill involved in making these pictures. You'll appreciate their craftsmanship on a new level and you'll enjoy masters better, because you are aware of more.

It's not just technical either. That kind of journey will make you more emotionally sensitive to these artworks. It'll literally look different to you.

>> No.4440487

>>4440458

I don't think it's about my skill at all. I just don't like the art (picture) examples these posters uploaded. Studying the skill shouldn't be the cue that activates someones appreciation of art piece. You got that wrong. You don't need to study Ghibli animation process to appreciate all the details. I don't need to study music theory to appreciate Iron Maiden solos.

Craig Mullins makes better and more interesting art than all of these, Frazetta though is good but the picture OP posted is just okay, nothing more.

>> No.4440618

>>4440487

Iron Maiden is a perfect example. You don't need to study music theory to appreciate it. But it's DEFINITELY not something everybody likes. I sure as hell don't listen to it. But if I studied the history of metal, learned the differences between different metal bands, singers, players. With the amount of songs I would've listened to in order to do all this, you can bet I'd enjoy me some metal by that point.

So what are our limits on "Fantasy art"?
Parrish is rather pleasant. And honestly, a considerable amount of work from the Victorian on the the Edwardian era could be classified as fantastical, if not "swords and sorcery" or whatever narrow definition. Lots of the Orientalists too I'd class fantastical.
