The proko video explains it well, if you've already watched it i'd just rewatch it and do what he says, practice just the construction a hundred times from as many angles as you can.

Pay attention to things like planes and proportions because they ultimately make or break a face.

I also suggest applying blur on the reference image when comparing. It is the equivalent of squinting your eyes, which helps you see the shapes and values more clearly. Side by side comparison shows that your range of values are limited. Your lighttones could be lighter, and you couldve used near true blacks around her eyelids and the rear of her neck. Really, your reference image is your best source for corrections. You just have to analyze it side by side.

I think the left shoulder in the original is supposed to be raised, but the braid is obscuring the lowered right shoulder. If that is the case, then the right side of the hip should be raised. Then the right hand should be resting on the raised side.

That overdrawing is a very standard pin-up pose. I think what anon was trying to evoke was a sassy, one-leg-away-from-the-body pose, but the draping of the apron muddles it. The solution is to push the pose to emphasize the character's emotional state.

It depends on your process which will vary on the individual. Personally, I've found that tracing over sketches to get clean linework tremendously stiffens my drawings; I shift from a very dynamic, large scale mindset to a very static and detail oriented one too quickly, at least digitally. There's a lot of very good strokes in sketches that are just lost with that approach for me so I try to make the sketch itself my linework.

Ideally, you want to get to a point where every stroke you make is conscious and valuable. In other words, never make a line that doesn't matter. Take it to the point that you can internalize all of the steps, visualize the image and steps beforehand, and start straight away with the linework as if it were your sketch.

An attempt. What I’ve been doing is working out the head shape, then attempting to copy while to the side while being deliberate on the shapes. After, I trace both and remove the layers too see exactly what I got off. Then I retry until I am satisfied. Let me know if you guys think that this is a good way to learn.

I'm always uncertain criticizing stuff like this, because you're clearly going for a stylized look. So I like the anatomy, as exaggerated as it is, but I think her head shape and face could use work. Her chin is super pointy, which is fair, but the cheeks should probably be a bit longer so her head isn't so oddly trangular.

>>4437947
It sounds like you're making a base layer, then going back over it, which is common, but if you're newer you sometimes mess up the lines making it all wonky. May not be the case, but I certainly had that issue at first. I think imitation is great, but try not to imitate layer by layer in a way that you would start building up an original piece. This may not work for everyone, but I benefitted in drawing the way you would on physical paper, going bit by bit. As in, start (for example) the eyes, then move on to the nose, then the mouth, then the face and hair and what have you around it. I've made imitations of all kinds of images this way. It may be wonky at first, but it helps you understand how certain looks are made.

like this, if you can go for a pro version do it the others are the basic shit that are missing the shorcuts but most importantly are the pens and sofware improvements as for the other brands make sure to buy the latest ones

this one is really outdated even if it was only a few years, a lot of these brands are always making newer versions of their older tablets so keep that in mind and go for the new models but if you can just go for a wacom intuos pro medium or large, used ones are cheap, the one in your link is 120 usd , that shit is sheap as fuck mostly reason why people sell them is because they renew their tablets and the resellers just fix the surface panel, buttoms or usb port if there's anything wrong since these are the manly components that may get damaged over time but those are rare.

the only thing that wacom has over other brands is the pen sensitivity, accuracy being better and software
