Why are all drawing manuals and books so awful across the board without fail?

I've went through heaps of them and still had to piece together the WHY of the fundamentals myself, when being told why at the start would've made things so much faster.

Share your wisdom anon, we could make this an interesting and worthwhile thread.

What manuals have you read? I can understand things like Bridgman being more confusing (even I don't really grasp it), but stuff like Hampton was more obvious because it's broken part-by-part.

You can read many books on ping pong, piano and chess but you're getting nowhere without thousands of hours of practice

If you try to explain literally everything you end up with a lot longer read and more room for confusion. If your having problems just take a video course.

Try to explain your newfound wisdom to somebody else.
Realize that most things that seem to stem from a single insight are actually built on a broad foundation, and that insight is just the tipping point.
Realize that most people will not value your specific insight, and they will instead feel that some other seemingly irrelevant or obvious detail is the key to everything.
Give up on teaching, it is a fools game. Worthwhile students will seek knowledge for themselves.

Because the majority of the people here fell for the "fundies" con. This isn't biology, or math, nobody is meant to collect knowledge through books in order to draw, drawing is the most intuitive of all fine arts, even musicians need to know some theory while drawing is 100% empirical

>> No.4431615

>>4431587
No, you’re supposed to collect knowledge and repeat everything you’ve learned and are learning. Intuition is nothing without knowledge to back it up. The greats like leyndecker, Sargent or Rubens wouldn’t be nearly as good if it wasn’t for the education and knowledge passed on to them. But I mean if you think you’ll get somewhere throwing shit at a canvas, then do what you want.

I have found evidence of the opposite. Artists who don't even know what the words perspective or Loomis mean, and yet they paint as gracefully as the ancient masters or better.

wash your hands to keep the corona at bay and think of me telling you how absolutely fucking retarded you are

I feel like learning the fundamentals has to do with deconstructing what makes reality look good. Composition and color theory strike me as attempts to break down what really makes things look good. Light, forms, and perspective are concerned about making things look grounded in reality. We all intuitively feel more impressed by a master painting than a child's scribbles, maybe those three fundamentals were created by deconstructing reality.

Those who can't do, teach. All the really good artists are busy actually working and being successful in their chosen field. The hacks that /ic/ worships are mediocre artists that couldn't make it, so they had to resort to peddling nonsense to beginners to stay afloat.
Fundamentals are also a meme. 90% of professional artists wouldn't even be able to tell you who Loomis is, and they never grinded boxes.

drawing is a language

drawing manuals are written by people who can draw therefore only people who can draw can read them

All those video courses, books and things like that that claim will give you insight and knowledge about how to draw are only showing you HALF, if that much, of the things that you actually need. It is hypocrasy at its finest; people who already have all the background necessary and know what they are doing teaching you half assed methods instead of showing you the same things they learned that enabled them to get to the level they are right now. Like some guy above said, it is only after you, god knows how and god knows after how many years, manage to learn a few things here and there, that you can comeback and see where all those tutorials are comming from and can put all the pieces of that ''knowledge" into work.

>that is what fundamentals are for
>you are retarded

How many tutorials, books, videos have you seen where those masters teach you, per example, how to make a correct ellipse but when you actually find out the whole process you will think to yourself ''if only he had show me all this before....'', hell even how to make a proper cube in perspective. How many books, videos, tutorials, per example, have you seem that explained to you something as basics as tangents when drawing, then your composition is all sorts of fucked up and you have no idea why. Comming here asking why will get you a ''loomis'' response. You can clearly see people like Huston, Vilppu, Gnass to name a few teaching you something but already putting layers uppon layers of things into it that if you have no idea it will look very simple but when you try to do it the results are very much different.. I wonder why. Then they will say things like ''just feel it''.
