I'm not over with this dogshit.
I feel like Mike and Joe look too much alike in terms of shape language and it's bothering me.
They are suposed to be father and son, thats why they have some common facial stuff, but I dont want them to be mixed.
Do you see it too or am I just overthinking?

>>4389734
This is not chicken scratch. Also the idea is not to clean up, it is to only use as little line has possible. One line is enough to describe a lot of forms but if you mess up and need to correct it it doesn't matter, it still a sketch after all it shouldn't look like a lineart.
>>4389267
Not chicken scratching make you faster, better at desicion making and your form can gain a ton of dynamism.
If you're not comfortable with it just practice it with figure drawing.

The divisions between light and shadow are pretty arbitrary here, need to start putting more thought into it before I start with color

I watched a couple KNKL vids which might have been the best resource for me thus far.
He gave the tip of having a dark desaturated background, and that both acts as sort of the ambient color and makes the colors you put down relatively vivid.
Though I'm not sure how it would work if the environment wasn't dark or desaturated. I still have trouble working with color on a lighter canvas

Drawing should be fun! if your goal is to improve by all means study but apply what you learn to something more simple and fun. I tried to pick up on studying recently but I've shelved the paining books (at least for now). I decided I wanted to refine a more simple "style" since my goal is to eventually put out a webcomic.

autistic /beg/ here. I have a very large passion for fisheye lenses and perspectives, and spent a lot of time doing my own research and wish to become good enough to share it with people and milk them for money.
I'm glad to see other people like this thing too. thought I'd share that you can simply draw in fisheye from life without guidelines if you focus on the angles without paying any attention (unhinge your mind and just draw shapes) -- doing this it will naturally tend to fisheye perspective. Figured this out yesterday and ever then since my observation drawings have been 10x better and easier.

>> No.4398329

>>4398240
you went too ambitious. You need more anatomy knowledge before you try shading the figure.

That aside, the shading direction is kinda consistent across the whole body, but the values are all over the place, aswell as the gradients. the lighter parts of the body are as light as the highlight of the ball which is incorrect. The shadow areas are darker than the darker shadow of the ball which is inconsistent with the lighting conditions established by it. The light-shadow transition is inaccurate and doesn't describe the form.

Try the same exercise with simplier organic forms

>> No.4398495

>>4398240
I also think you missed the ambient light coming from below on a lot of the body parts. Without the ambient light, its hard to spot the core shadow, which says a lot about the shape.

By needing more anatomy knowledge you mean the way light reacts with anatomy or that I got the anatomy wrong? If I did I'd like to know where the mistakes are.
I only used the ball to get an idea of the direction of light. The values I chose for shading were 30 60 80.
I will practice shading on single body parts instead on the whole body.

Ghost over lines before committing to one

Practice lines and curved lines

Slow down and think more before drawing a line, think of the form it needs to define before drawing it.

Look up Peter Han's dynamic sketching exercises and maybe Scott Robertson's line practice.

Promo also recommended copying linework from sketches of master. You take a part of the body in the sketch and copy it, analysing why it was done so.

how the fuck can I learn to draw figures from imagination at any angle, pose and foreshortening?
the books and studies and memory /imagination drawings I've been doing seem inefficient
wondering if there's a completely different viewpoint on learning this,
For example Kim jung gi said he only ever drew from memory

it takes a long time in either way, and differences in talent make it impossible to measure one strategy of learning against the other. I think there must be some method which beats out all the rest and maybe it seems an unusual method compared to the normal
have you heard of any interesting strategies of learning figure drawing from artists you think have good skill?

also, when KJG says to only draw from memory, does he mean applying your memory of the details and structure into an imagination based drawing, or to actually recreate a memory of something you saw (like observation drawing but based on what you can visualise)?

no he didn’t, where did you get that? he drew plenty from life. there’s an interview where he literally tells you how he was able to learn fish eye perspective. he wanted to draw all corners of a busy room so he would sit down in a corner of the room and draw it that way. I’ll even spoon feed you: https://youtu.be/DmqFbgKWoao

that’s not to suggest that all great artists have done still life drawing. I know a guy that draws kino kaiju, creatures, figures, landscapes, animates, etc. and has probably never just sat and drawn an entire room from life. it definitely doesn’t hurt to try, however. you won’t lose anything but uncharted territory if you try a new drawing technique.

Learn figure drawing. The curves of the poses and all that. With that you'll be able to nail in your head body proportions and then it's just a matter of creating the curves from your imagination and applying the anatomy knowledge to it.
About KJG. I know he's an object of inspiration to many of us here, but he's also an exception. Trying to emulate him will only throw you off course. You can try it later, when you do the basics with ease.

Most of all, you need to push the values, it might help you to first indicate where in your image is the darkest and lightest, and then make those nearly black and white.
Also please don't think about a "correct" way of doing things, worrying about that will just hinder you and slow you down, instead just experiment with the fade out and settle with whatever pleases you.

I'm trying to figure out the forms of the body so I can draw them from any angle
There are things that don't get any easier to guess, like the distance between the top of the asscheeks and the bend between the ribs and pelvis, or the vertical length of the ribs, or how thick the midsection should be
I don't want to be accurate, i want to make my bodies look good. There's not really any consistency to them though. I just want to make feel energetic and expressive out of very simple forms, but my subconscious always stifles any attempt to exagerate in favor of "accuracy"

Same problem here, but I feel like I'm slowly leaving it behind.
Make a habit of drawing zoomed out, that helps a lot. Plan by drawing a thumbnail that's so small you physically can't worry about the details, take mental notes and then do the actual drawing.

I'm not a porn artist but if you're not that concerned with accuracy, it's not really complicated, just study the areas you hate drawing and simplify a lot.

one of my relevant finds itt. it's cool, surreal, etc., but that center object (hand and knife) stands out way too much and looks unfinished. add a bit more rando detail and/or non-retarded shading, and it'll be good to go. also i have problems with enjoying the background imagery when that ginormous hand keeps taking my attention away in a bad way; its first finger has this awkward shape that has become painfully obvious. otherwise, neat looking at the shit in the background and trying to make sense of it!
