IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

Go very slow, be a tryhard, try to copy the shadows as accurately as you copied the contours of the body. Never lay down dark values immediately, rather you should start by filling in the area with a rather light even tone with a hard pencil and gradually adding more light layers to make it darker and darker, switching up to softer pencils as required. This will help you get a very smooth look and will also help you be more accurate at the same time, since you'll see the darker values coming ahead of time and will have more accurate control over where you place them.

I'm drawing with a $10 mouse on an obsolete version of Paint Tool SAI that won't let me save the pics.
Not just that but I always draw 5000x5000px images and I save them by taking several screenshots and piecing them together on MS Paint.

when drawing from reference, should you have the goal to use gesture / construction to produce something approximate but equally valid in terms of anatomy , or should you use bargue plate style to make an exact replica, (plumb lines, pencil measuring etc) ?

My comment was generalised and replying to your "goal" comment. The literal idea should be to understand the shapes and then add form to it. If you think doing Bargue plates is more limiting than helpful, then do something else. If your goal is to draw from imagination, then start doing full figure drawings.

Did a practice sketch using the new skeleton I learned from Loomis. I am in love with it. Having to actually draw the spine, full ribcage shape, the hips and bones means I have actual lines to go off rather than "Oh, I think they go like this". I didn't care too much about the faces since I don't want to focus on that right now.

I can see that you were trying to hide the right upper arm behind her torso by implying a bent arm, but it looks unnatural and looks like a little T-Rex arm. Straightening it out and also aligning the other arm, with both wrists bent at a more subtle angle, is a better feel. Going to be honest, I had no idea that was the same person. I critique where I see people trying. A lot of posts are often quick doodles, with little thought put behind the construction. Or they are already at or above my skill level and I have nothing of value to impart.

For you, I like what you have been doing so far since you clearly have a good handle on torsos, but you should step out of your comfort zone and draw some hands/feet/full head & face.

It can be either a curse or a blessing. Either you have the right genetics and will gitgud and make it into a career and be loved by many, have a very fulfilling life and finally find happiness.

Or if you have inferior genetics it will be something that you hate doing for the rest of your life, you will never improve no matter how much you try, and it will probably ruin your social life, career path, mental health, etc. You will put all of your energy into it and neglect everything else because youve been brainwashed for years that talent doesnt exist and anyone can make it through hardwork.

So you decide you will dedicate your life to it like Volen Ck but be living in a delusion, and keep believing youre getting closer but the only thing youre actually getting closer to is homelessness, and approaching the end of all hope for ANYTHNG at this point, not just art, and you will become very suicidal because now youre completely alone and sacrificed everything for nothing.

In the end, you will die as a /beg/ and nobody will care.

So if I was just drawing boxes and cylinders in a scene I would decide on a perspective, set the horizon and vanishing points and then I'd know how to contour shapes. If it's advice the horizon, you're looking under it so the cylinder contours up away from your. But I could not "feel the form" while doing this study. I guess I could just do the top half in one direction and the lower half the other but how do I decide where the horizon actually is? How do I trace perspective on an organic shape. If I break it down to boxes it just feels like a flat angle.

I think it is more helpful to think of the torso separated into the ribcage + navel than one solid shape. Keep in mind the proportions of the arms and legs as it looks a little janky on the character in the back. Also you should move him a little away from the 2nd character to create a better silhouette and negative space so she is not lost in the composition (please excuse my hasty fill bucket example)

When flipping the body to do a back view, edit the feet to face away from the viewer otherwise the character looks like they're floating above the ground. Make sure the elbows are parallel to each other. The eyes will not be visible from that angle since the head is rotated away so you can leave them out. The pelvis/back should also be rotated to fit the 3/4 view and not seem so flat. Add sutble shading to the back to imply the natural concave curvature of the spine.

to play devil's advocate... and i mean devil because furries deserve hellfire, the eyes might actually be on the sides of the head because it's a prey animal. humans have eyes on the front face of the head, a deer is not exactly following the same rules. I'm not skilled enough to be red lining your work, but I think I'm seeing where the main problem is. It seems like you're both trying to use two different perspectives at the same time. B for her upper body, and C for her lower body - assuming her ass is plastered to the ground and her legs are out like a frog's, which is as best I can interpret what you have. I think if you want the best of both worlds, with bent-akimbo legs and a more natural viewing angle, you would be better off with A, where her ass is not on the ground.
New to /ic/, apologies if DesignDoll is frowned upon. Obviously referencing something real is better but I couldn't find anything that illustrated the problem neatly.
