Back in 2011 I got paid to draw a web comic for a few months. Got ripped off hard and went insane doing it. I haven't tried since then to make money because I know I'm not good enough.

I only do traditional right now. I bought a Huion pen display in September but Amazon fucked me over and sent me the old model so I sent it back. I didn't really have the space for it yet anyway. Now I've got a studio setup so I'm gonna buy their upcoming Pro 24 model.

32 and pretty ashamed of my low level. i basically stopped all together in high school because i traded drawing for music. so starting up again a few years ago was almost like starting from 0 all over again. but, i only got serious about it last april, and i have made more progress in the last 9 months or so than the previous 31 years prior. pic related are just from 2020. like i said, not good for 32, but for 9 months of actual effort and as a hobby while working 2 jobs, i feel ok about it.

25. I have been drawing all my life, never had any structured teaching or study, just drew a lot and read books and watched videos. Unfortunately I was an idiot and never made scenes or compositions and never made finished work because my attention span was too short to draw something planned out, then line and color it. Studied photos of people and observed them as I went throughout my day but I have never really drawn from life. Mostly grinded my imagination drawing to the point where I actually got decent at it, mostly this last year and maybe the second half of 2018? Lately I've been focusing more on finishing my work and making actual compositions with characters actually doing things and interacting instead of random poses and standing.
Somehow I managed to learn to be able to draw stuff without underdrawing construction, which not everyone can boast, but I'm far from the only one who can do so either. I would be much, much better, maybe even professional level if I had invested in serious, committed study instead of blindly following wherever my autism lead me. But I'm pretty okay with my power level, all things considered. Drawing is still fun and it keeps getting more fun so I'm happy. I do want to learn and improve more this year though, fill in the gaps left by my eclectic drawing habits and education and actually make something worthwhile.

Lol, I get what you're saying but honestly I don't have a ton of interest in either. The 30 year old with a good, stable job and a balanced budget who is just starting painting is going to do better than the 20 year old working 60 hours a week making minimum wage trying to afford rent in a city they should have never moved to trying to "make it".

I am 20 y/o. Happy isn't the word I'd use, but I am very grateful to be at my current skill level. Though I still want to get a lot more done, get better and grow. It feels like a hike in the mountains, when you think you are close to the top to suddenly see the edge break and realise you still got a long way to go.
I am very excited to start on the next piece but I am also overwhelmed with my own creative thoughts, techniques and theories.
All in all I feel like I am on a good path in life, just need to remember to stay on the right path.

i had depression real bad last year. luckily i had a good rate to see a therapist through my health insurance. Shit ain't on joke. I would advise anybody to not try to fix it on your own, and see a professional. A psychologist, not a psychiatrist and go with the same gender you are. In my case, weed was contributing so that had to stop, but the root causes were things like bad relationships with my family members, and actually subconsciously having a lot of same about the porn i was watching. that kind of shit you can rationalize for a long time, but part of you knows its wrong and it builds up. In your case, maybe something totally different. Drawing is good only because just improving at something in general is good for you but I wouldn't say it got me through it. Exercise did nothing for me either. I'd say it was stressful and made it worse if anything. But, yea best of luck. Take it seriously. Get it fixed. Think of it like a pain in your tooth. You wouldn't just mope around with that for months or years, you'd get it fixed asap.

31. I got first lesson in "art school" a few days ago. I've never drawn in my life before. My job is shit, the only good thing about it is that I don't do much there. Maybe in a year or so I could be good enough to make better money doing yiff commissions.
