What does /ic/ think of photobashing?

Photobashing is a technique where artists merge & blend photographs or 3D assets together while painting and compositing them into one finished piece.

This is used by concept artists to speed up their workflow and achieve a realistic style.

Is it cheating and bull shit?

Its nice for conception art especially if its for a realistic game.
For illustrations though they always looks off unless the artist spends a lot of time overpainting everything

It's not cheating.

This.
For concept art it works because iteration and design is all that matters. For illustration it looks absolutely horrendous unless the whole thing is essentially painted over, or it's a full on matte painting (which takes like, literal months to do).

No such thing as 'cheating' in art.

So if I start making bashed artwork and put it on instagram and normies think its completely painted by me and I get a shitloads of followers and fame and money thats fine?

no. artist working in the industry have deadlines. rather than spend hours drawing an architecture or getting texture right they just photo-bash it and get to the end look that they want faster. everyone happy.

a good photo-bash requires skill. and it's a legitimate process. then again I only see it used in concepts. illustration is different, there's more time so artist usually don't like to use photo-bashing as part of their process.

there's no rules. only tools.

it's only cheating if you use filter or those ai autopainting and call it your own. photo-bashing process requires technical skills and your own judgement.

if you have an idea and you're good at photo-bashing. go ahead. whether you want to tell the world about it is up to you. if my work is really good I would proudly say I photo-bash.

>cheating
Cheating only applies if you are practicing to get gud.
The mentality that certain techniques are cheating is only gonna cost you money.

What even is that thing? How does it move?
Photobashing will only work if you already know what you are doing.

So if I photobash and call it my painting its fine?

>> No.4365639

>>4365633

How is it different from taking a goddamn photo from google and pasting it to your ''painting''?

Aren't you just supposed to use the photobash as a base for which you draw over? This pic just looks lieke the elements are copy pasted.

I know of concept artists who use this in their workflow, especially on their base 3d block outs and such
