I feel like this one might have some soft edges I'm not seeing on my monitor but for the most part it's just hard edges with minimal value changes.

It's just painted with a hard round brush without much blending. There are a lot of hard edges there though (e.g. the nose), as well as soft ones.

I know when hoooook paints he uses lots of layers of paint to make a seamless transition from one plain to the next. The face here has lots of colors but they're made of various shapes that don't blend together. The same thing happens with his jacket and t-shirt (there's even a scribble indicating shadow on his undershirt). I think it only gives an illusion of blending/soft edges just like the skin here

Yes and as you can clearly see, in this image you've just posted and in every single image you've posted, there are textured non round brushes everywhere. I even recognise some of them from the ones I've downloaded.

Hard round brushes are a meme fed to gullible people in order to keep the competition low by making sure that shit artists stay shit. Or as an exercise, that should never be taken seriously or be done permanently.
