One, because it's 4chan. There are some deeply trouble and autistic and worse anons running around here, why would i risk connecting my real world with this den of the scum of humanity?
Second, I try to critique in a way that seeing my art wouldn't change anything. If you're drawing something wrong, I don't need credentials to say that - and "post your work" is a retreat to the attack on authority and cowardly. I'm either right in my critique, or I'm wrong. It's a subjective thing. Granted, I can back my words up with a degree and career, but none of that matters for beginning level advice.
I think your need to have people post their work has more to do with things not about art, than about art.

>Nah, bro, your analogy doesn't work. Because a boxer SHOULD be actively asking to get punched in the face while training, just as an artist should be posting their work for critique.
You have already changing the context of my analogy, I said "MOST NORMAL PEOPLE" I did not say "A BOXER." You created a completely new analogy by changing the subject someone who is specifically in the business of getting punched instead of someone who is normally would not be. Besides a boxer can dodge or block the punches, you cannot dodge written comments you can either ignore them which defeats the original purpose of receiving them or try to argue with them which again defeats the purpose.

>just as an artist should be posting their work for critique.
This holds truth but "critique" at /ic/ is usually short, generalized and unspecific opinions posts like "Loomis" or "learn anatomy" or "read a book" or alternatively "you are shit" or "kys" or posting reaction images or smug lolis or pepes and other assorted memes. None of those are specifically helpful in the field of art.

It's an interesting dillema. 4chan encourages a fully anonymous userbase and actively shuns identifying users like namefags/tripfags/avatarfags. Yet, for a board like /ic/, posting identifying artworks are also valid to prove you have the skill to back up your bullshit. So, ultimately, it just turns into an endless n-no u cycle, excluding the times obvious newfags OR (maybe excessively) confident anons actually respond with work.

I'm not coming at you, fren. Don't wanna argue.

I change the context of your analogy because the context was different in scenario A and scenario B. An artist isn't "most normal people". He's in the business of art. So to compare him to someone to make an analogy, you should also compare him to a person who's in the business of getting punches.

See what I mean? That's all.

As for your second statement,
> None of those are specifically helpful in the field of art.
Nothing I disagree with there. You get 3 crabby comments and maybe 1 decent one, here. But I think you should still share your work because it teaches you to "take the punches" and because it's worth it for that one time someone leaves a decent response (I literally save constructive critiques of my work and the folder is pretty damn empty).

He is partially right, though. As my first semester illustration teacher said, "If you can't defend your work, don't bother." Critiques in college were brutal - but not personal. It's an important distinction. We couldn't say "You suck, faggot", but we could say "Your work sucks - here's why." And we had to defend it. Later, at the end of the semester, the same teacher told us that he did it on purpose, to scare off the flakes, because the program was too crowded, and that we'd get worse as pros. And, he was right - 95% of my experiences professionally have been poilite, but I've run into some raging assholes. And I defended my work, every time.
Most "critique" here is just name calling and childish bullshit, but it's 4chan, it's expected. Which is why I try to give real critiques, and can be blunt. Not rude, but honest.

>> No.4337985

I personally don't because I dont want to have my style or art being recognized and have my name/brand tainted by being associated with 4chan, like it or not the art community is mostly ppl who are into cancel culture. It's really not. A writer at I think Bioware got fired for a forum post he made about immigration. Famous people are getting in trouble all the time now for tweets they made years ago. It's a real thing. Although that just means that you shouldn't post any work on 4chan that is also associated with your professional persona somewhere else. There's no problem with posting quick doodles on 4chan unless you have a very well known and recognizable style (which is probably no one here).
