Drawabox is a worse version of DS.
DS does take more effort though, so if you're a complete /beg/ you might as well start with drawabox since it's a lot less time consuming than DS.

The first lesson is good since it's pretty much a copy from Peter Han's lesson. It does an okay job teaching line quality and getting you started on free hand perspective.
Don't bother with hte rest.

Mind elaborating just what makes it worse? I did DaB as a beg and it forced me to think and draw in 3d forms (granted it took about a year, but nevertheless)

The only exercises that are actually good are the ones he directly copied from DS
And even then the drawabox guy tends to add his own twist on these exercises which most of the time completely miss the purpose of the exercise.
The main exercise for drawabox, which is obviously drawing boxes, isn't really as useful as some people like to pretend.
Sure, being able to draw boxes somewhat correctly in perspective without needing any setup is definitely useful, but grinding boxes is just a waste of time.
In DS you have to draw boxes for week 3 I believe, and that's it.
It's just a passing exercise to get you comfortable with drawing boxes, not to grind them for 50 hours.
DS spends more time on combining different forms and understanding how to use construction to draw stuff from reference so you can build your visual library.
The drawabox guy tries to go past just drawing boxes, but all of his explanations and exercises just fall flat and he even had a chapter on anatomy which he removed because it was below /beg/ tier.
Drawabox will definitely make you really good at drawing boxes, but that's about it.

>if you can learn how to draw cubes in any rotation in one week then hats off to you
That's the whole point.
You don't learn to draw boxes (I don't think drawabox teaches cubes so I assume you meant boxes) in any orientation in 1 week, because you literally don't have to.
Drawing boxes free-hand without any setup in any orientation will take years, even pros still have trouble drawing them from weird angles simply because our brains aren't very good at rotating stuff at certain angles.
Grinding boxes is for the most part a waste of time since the reward isn't worth the amount of time you spend on it.
Same thing as grinding loomis heads.
The loomis method is just a tool, not a final product.
Same with boxes.
Unless you have some kind of learning disability, you can learn how to draw boxes while drawing stuff from life.
You'll get a good amount of value from the time invested that way, since you're also expanding your visual library instead of just mindlessly drawing boxes.

I disagree, most people have boxes nailed after 250 of them. I'm telling you man this DaB thing isn't as bad as everyone says it is

OP here, thank you for the info. I have Dynamic Sketching and am ready to watch it. Just after I grind a few more ellipses.

>> No.4327076

/beg/ here. What I immediately disliked about DaB was the insistence on keeping your wrist and elbow 'locked' and ONLY drawing from the shoulder. I realize it's beneficial to to draw from the shoulder, but it just felt unnatural and wonky to draw every type of line, no matter the length or size solely with the shoulder. While it might be the correct way to go about it, it made drawing really unfun for me. Constantly having to remind myself to only use my shoulder disrupted my workflow immensely, so I decided to just drop the whole thing. I'm not saying that I don't draw from my shoulder, it just decided it worked a lot better for me personally to use different parts of my arm and hand when it felt natural to do. I mean, if you wanted to draw a straight line across your paper, you would just naturally use your shoulder/elbow instead of fingers/wrist.
