make sure you're capturing their most defining features
pic related for example: heavy brow line resting over her eyes, foreshadowing her future evolution into a quasi-quasimoto

I think what you drew was really nice.

It's not mine sadly but that's what I aiming for, stylization while keeping the resemblance obvious

Are you asking how to draw realism? Your work is obviously stylized but its not bad.
If you're asking how to make it extremely accurate to refs of people, you have to photo copy.
Become a proko drone.

Yeah he means how to keep features of a person in a simplified anime/western cartoon drawing.
Which I find impossible except with generic cute girls.

Try with caricature and then do you'r own style.

Pretty much u want to keep the distance between, and for the most part the look of, the facial features the same, while playing with the proportions of said features... Eh, the more caricatures u do the more u can mess around with it

Its all about proportion and shape accuracy. Get yourself a proportional divider and use it to measure the distances between your models eyes and nose, and the relative length/height of each feature on the face. Over time it becomes automatic and you won't need the tool, and when you get really good you'll figure out what bits of a figures structure you can push and pull at while retaining the likeness.>>4323574

this, but also remember to accentuate the attractive features the most
people like it when you draw pretty version of them, so make sure to draw pretty versions of them.

Court Jones' caricature series on Proko's channel, something clicked for me after he talked about likeness in the first couple vids.

Essentially you're not drawing what the person looks like, you're drawing that which makes them different from the average person (think assaro head)

>> No.4325374

Likeness is all about capturing the character. Try looking at the prominent facial features (big eyes, large nose, small mouth etc.) the try exaggerating them like >>4323582 did
Take note that especially with characters from media who already have a known personality, try and remembering their personalities and form a character design based off that will earn you extra brownie points. Have a look at how shape and silhouette inform the viewer too. All of this boils down to character design really.
