Should I do an Art History degree? I like art and not much else. Only the history part I don't make it.

>> No.4289900

Why don't you try making art? It'd be a hundred more satisfying. All the resources are available to you right here. It's only a matter of time, a few years of hard dedication and you'll make it.

The good news is that it will take you about 3 minutes of copying something from an Andrew Loomis book and you will be about 200% better than you are.
The bad news is that after that

is right, because art is mentally exhausting to grind at. I'm in engineering and memorizing anatomy and grinding endless faces or bodies in perspective is about as hard to get good at in terms of effort required.

I can't understand your mind.
I would never take someone seriously, no matter how encyclopedic their knowledge of periods of art history or of certain artists catalogues, if they had a blank look behind the eyes instead of a fire of love for it.
Look up Brian Sewell, he was one of England's great art critic, recently deceased sadly. But he at least tried to learn the craft first. You must have an understanding of the oils and the canvas.

Sure, you don't have to bother with making it yourself but it will help you appreciate everything art related tremendously

If you need a degree for some reason, sure. If you are interested just in art history -- no, just read the books, visit museums, etc.
