Are self portraits egotistical? Does liking to draw/paint yourself make you a narcissist?

Artists are narcissists, especially those that post on social media. Deal with it.

doesnt answer the question. You diverted the topic to something that you specifically wanted to talk about, namely the general narcissism of artists. Then you displayed a devil-may-care attitude with your comment of "Deal with it." Overall, I'd say these are all signs of narcissism. Do you make portraits of yourself by any chance?

I think they're ok if you don't draw them that often and keep them realistic looking (I.e. not making yourself too idealized).

The cringiest shit is when artists constantly draw their self-inserts that are more attractive/better than them, especially if they draw porn too. Those people should be executed on site.

actually, I know of another phenomenon. What of people who draw themselves a particular way, and it is apparent that it's intended to be them, and not idealized at all, but... the likeness doesn't resemble them very much? I'm thinking of one person I know in particular who does this. I'm not sure if it's a sign of humility gone too far, a lack of skill when drawing likeness, or deliberately throwing the likeness for whatever reason, but, given that this person is extremely skilled otherwise in virtually all respects, and draws many self-depictions, it makes me wonder what it might mean.

First of all, yes, it's narcissistic. Second, your own body is the most available reference and study object you have. Third, we have a stupid questions thread, and yours clearly belongs there.

It's probably lack of skill when drawing likeness

I think there's nothing wrong with idealizing yourself just a little bit if you're working with cartoons or fantasy art, just don't go overboard to the point that it becomes comical. If you're ok with comical then do whatever I guess.

no, it might be egotistical if you are obsessed with it to an unhealthy extent but its not narcissistic to have an expressed interest in your appearance or depictions of yourself
