That's what happens when you abandon the existential crisis of always looking for a skill level that you'll never reach in a lifetime, and get comfortable.
Some anons talk about having a "goal skill level". I guess it helps them cope with the realization of just how much time, effort and dedicated study it requires to consistently get better, so they tell themselves that they'll one day settle for a "style" and it'll be fun recreational drawing from then on.
But imagine how depressing it would be to reach that level, and then ten years later to look back, and realize just how much better you could've become in that time.

Just how you get more and more depraved fetishes as you feed the beast, artists who focus on exaggerating sexuality in their art start exaggerating it more and more.
You could even call it reverting to symbol drawing, in a sense. It's how you imagine an arousing scene in your mind, rather than how it would look. You're probably thinking about curves, pussy ass, nipples, etc when you fap to imagination, and when you draw it, those are the features that will be exaggerated.

What if that meme about modernist artists getting so skilled that they move beyond realism is not a meme? Except it wouldn't be through skill that they revert to symbol drawing, but through ideological cool aid.

2007-2008 , The artist draws trad and is good at it

2011-2019: The artist tries but never manages to switch to digital , the artist whould most probably wish to go back to trad but she/he fears that taking a picture of a piece of paper rather than just having the art digitally removes from the profesionalism

I think this thread shows the dangers of people not really focusing on their faults when drawing. Seems a lot of people just draw shit and if it looks bad they move on (as they should), but with no reflection on their mistakes (which is where they fuck up), which is why some have no progress after a year or a regression or a complete change in style while still looking the same. People need to do more focused drawing. Yeah, drawing more will help, but not much if you make the same mistakes over and over with no thought of fixing them

There are tons of skills you haven't improved in, the only difference is that no one makes these retarded pictures with them. Imagine you never play any instrument, try having some fun with a guitar a couple of times, shove it to the side and try playing again 3 years later. Do you think you'd magically improve? More likely you wouldn't be half as good. I certainly would still suck as much with a guitar. I wouldn't be able to solve problems using Fourier series or whatever that was anymore.

Also another factor is the amount of effort. A lot of these improvement pictures have a later one that has a huge amount of effort into it, or the person might not really be trying in either case.

In some cases it can also look like they got worse but for example one could be traced while the other built using proper construction.

No, and you don't have to keep them locked up all the time, but focus most of your attention on moving the shoulder. it's going to be hard at first, think like, a couple of months before you're back to where you're making things at a level you're already used to, but it will save you in the long from repetitive strain injuries, and really fucking up your tendons. Your should is a hell of a lot more resilient than your elbow or wrist.

Don't be afraid to draw from imagination either, it's a really good way to practice how to get livelier drawings. It's also a really bad and frustrating way to practice anatomy. Allow yourself to admit when you don't know how to draw something, and practice. Reference and imagination drawing are both important.
