That's what happens when you abandon the existential crisis of always looking for a skill level that you'll never reach in a lifetime, and get comfortable.
Some anons talk about having a "goal skill level". I guess it helps them cope with the realization of just how much time, effort and dedicated study it requires to consistently get better, so they tell themselves that they'll one day settle for a "style" and it'll be fun recreational drawing from then on.
But imagine how depressing it would be to reach that level, and then ten years later to look back, and realize just how much better you could've become in that time.

Sex fetishism is a one way rabbit hole.
Just how you get more and more depraved fetishes as you feed the beast, artists who focus on exaggerating sexuality in their art start exaggerating it more and more.
You could even call it reverting to symbol drawing, in a sense. It's how you imagine an arousing scene in your mind, rather than how it would look. You're probably thinking about curves, pussy ass, nipples, etc when you fap to imagination, and when you draw it, those are the features that will be exaggerated.

What if that meme about modernist artists getting so skilled that they move beyond realism is not a meme? Except it wouldn't be through skill that they revert to symbol drawing, but through ideological cool aid.

Start off with realism and once you get good enought you can start stylising and drawing sanic zapping to the extreme
2 quotes that helped me alot are:

"draw what you see , not what you think you see"

Dont symbol draw , draw what you trully see , draw it as if it where a alien object that you have never seen before and you need to draw it as accuretely as possible for the sake of research

and

"Learn the rules before you break them" , learn realism on a decent level before drawing anime/cartoons

I think this thread shows the dangers of people not really focusing on their faults when drawing. Seems a lot of people just draw shit and if it looks bad they move on (as they should), but with no reflection on their mistakes (which is where they fuck up), which is why some have no progress after a year or a regression or a complete change in style while still looking the same. People need to do more focused drawing. Yeah, drawing more will help, but not much if you make the same mistakes over and over with no thought of fixing them

Anyway, i'm one of those people who drew as a kid but didn't seriously start trying to draw again until this past December so it hasn't been long at all

Because of ego and the human need to feed their own value. People seek their own style so then can be unique and special. Its just simple pride. They try to reach an uniqueness and fail, or destroy themselves, or simply become another product.

>>4270686
>>4271851
By not being prideful, we must reproduce Truth and the perfection that God cast upon this world. The truth is that everyone should seek a realistic style, but not fully. For example, the sculpture of Pieta, from Michelangelo, shows Mary much bigger than Jesus, showing her symbol on the material world.

Those who can reproduce the beauty of God's creation reached the perfected form of art. Just like the complexity of contraditory compositions in life, we can also bend certain laws in favour of certain messages. Everything must be done with reason. There must be a certain balance here, but in any way, we should purge most of these "styles" we see nowadays. This same reality applies to music as well, Vivaldi reproduces cold and shivering on his Winter.

don't take anything so personally. Often the rudest fucking people are in their own way the kindest. It's easy to get stuffed into your own head, and your own work, and not see what's wrong. I know that doesn't exactly apply to you right now, but if you keep practicing, and practicing what you're weakest at. When it comes time that the best way to see what's going wrong is for people to critique your work, and critique it harshly. It's not going to be "nice" people saying nice things who point out what's wrong that you can't see, it's going to be the rude assholes. And they may not always be exactly right with the solution, but more often than not, if you keep a clear and open mind, you'll agree with a lot of the flaws. That's a really important part of this learning process.

People who don't draw aren't going to improve unless they're young and their brain develops at the same time. You get better by practicing, simple as that.

There are tons of skills you haven't improved in, the only difference is that no one makes these retarded pictures with them. Imagine you never play any instrument, try having some fun with a guitar a couple of times, shove it to the side and try playing again 3 years later. Do you think you'd magically improve? More likely you wouldn't be half as good. I certainly would still suck as much with a guitar. I wouldn't be able to solve problems using Fourier series or whatever that was anymore.

>drawing from elbow and wrist
No, and you don't have to keep them locked up all the time, but focus most of your attention on moving the shoulder. it's going to be hard at first, think like, a couple of months before you're back to where you're making things at a level you're already used to, but it will save you in the long from repetitive strain injuries, and really fucking up your tendons. Your should is a hell of a lot more resilient than your elbow or wrist.

>Drawing from imagination
Don't be afraid to draw from imagination either, it's a really good way to practice how to get livelier drawings. It's also a really bad and frustrating way to practice anatomy. Allow yourself to admit when you don't know how to draw something, and practice. Reference and imagination drawing are both important.

>stretch or sketch?
Yes

How the fuck are you in any way close to that other artists skill level? Your shit doesn't even look 3D let alone proportional, or clean in any way AT ALL. That guy drew two clean, proportional, coloured, stylised pieces and you've posted two below average sketches.

You need to bring yourself back to reality. Take the advice of the other anons on improving, but here's my bit: your work is shit, and it will always be shit, but you can be happy with it, while realising its shit. As you study more you'll realise what makes a piece good both fundamentally, in an objective sense and also aesthetically pleasing in a subjective sense.

This is what I concluded from both /ic/ and other artists I talked to on social media or discords:
soul = appeal and/or art that looks unique in it's own ways regardless of technical ability
soulless = no appeal and/or art that looks like just another poor copy of (insert popular artist's name style)

When comparing 2 artists i tend to automatically asign the "more skilled artist" badge to the one that draws realism/has a more realistic artstyle , even if its less intresting

this tendecy isnt as extreme as it used to be when i first first looked into the art community where I looked up to living xeroxes copying photos and thought
"Van Gogh and all the other artists be dammed this is the absolute peak of art".

Its gotten less extreme thought out my time in the art community but the realism /semi-realism bias but its still there

Also what the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch?

I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words.

You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot.
The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands.

Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit.

If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.
