**Don’t aimlessly study the fundamentals or anime. Learn the fundamentals (form, value, color, composition, etc.) through properly copying anime.**

General anime style discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Keep most of your personal works for /alt/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good anime styled references (illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.) to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

Traditional. Get some ballpoint pens and a ream of printer paper. Get going.

Digital is horrible for beginners because the dexterity isn't there and digital is really loose. The skills you get from drawing will translate to the tablet. Beginners get lost in learning programs instead of learning to draw. They get sucked in trying out different brushes and flailing around with color when they can't even draw or understand the value scale. A very cheap gouache/watercolor kit is what I'd recommend trying before going to digital as well so you understand how colors mix and the general painting process. People who do digital with no trad painting background miss out on a lot of fundamentals of what their tools are trying to emulate.

It means studying a subject, technique or fundamental so that you understand how to replicate it without looking. It can also just be academic stuff, practice. It's the technical side of art, rather than the fun creative stuff.

Study can be learning how to:
>Understand perspective, proportions, [insert fundamental here]
>Recreate a black+white photo accurately for a value study
>Construct an animal from simple forms, and then draw it from memory
>Learn how to replicate an artists technique
>Learn anatomy
>Do bargue plates to learn pencil techniques and tone control
Etc.

A study is just studying. Subject or technique, goal, and then you do it until you've learned what you want.

The most important part of studying is testing yourself. Just like you did tests to see if you could recall info in school, recalling information you learn and applying it is important to art and retaining your gains. Do things from memory. Make a new piece of art with the skills you've learned, and finish it to the best of your ability even if it's difficult.

There's a bunch of fixes that work for different people. On some systems it doesn't even occur- like on another laptop I got, so you'll have to do trial and error on everything you can find on the internet. A *lot* of people have these issues so it should be easy to find.
>1. So I should install older versions of Wacom drivers? Do you know which ones?
I'm not sure if this will work for you, but I basically uninstalled the wacom driver, and installed the one that came in the tablet's packaging box(should probably rip the CD if it works for you, might help in the future). I haven't updated the driver since.
>2. What if I don't even have Windows Ink installed, is there still some disabling steps that are relevant?
Windows Ink is natively installed on Windows.
Also, check this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGi47EWEkuY @4:30. I haven't tried it personally.

The problem is that you didn't correct anything in your drawing, all you did was incorrectly attempt to change the orientation of the head while failing to keep the perspective of the whole consistent.
Take the clues from the underside of the chin, the location of the ear relative to the eyes. They all strongly suggest a certain perspective that is consistent with the eyeline.
Take the arc of her headband and see how it orientates in space.
For the final bullet see the orientation of the cylinder of her mic.

All these together paints a very strong and consistent perspective orientation and there's nothing wrong with it. You simply didn't like the orientation, but even then you failed to correctly change it

>> No.4245008

>>4244989
I don’t think you understand what the eye positioning means. The eyes should be sunken inside the head. Moving the right eye doesn’t change the orientation of her head, it changes how far inside her head it is. The right eye should be lower because her right brow is too far up for the angle of head.

Your “construction” the of head is deformed and elongated. Why is it so stretched vertically? It doesn’t even take into account the back of her head. Go back and relearn basic head construction.

To get a big one out of the way, the arc on the top of her head doesn't represent her cranium, it represents her headband. I highlighted it as it's a good indicator of perspective.

Depth of the eye socket is entirely stylistic choice (I personally don't see anything wrong in this one) and you can feel free to adjust it to your preference.
BUT in this context, if you do want to change it, you need to adjust the position of both of the eyes.
This is because in this piece the eyes are already correctly horizontally aligned, so you cannot change the position of one eye without changing the other, unless you want to break the perspective consistency of the scene.

The left eye is already too shallow. That is why the right should be moved. Usually with an angle this oblique the nose and brow would have started on obstructing the left eye already. It hasn’t so it implies the nose and brow is not very big. With the right eye so high up it make it look too deep and also makes the ear look too low.

This makes the brow line hard to read correctly thus making it look asymmetrical

hi /asg/ so I am back once again, nearing the home stretch of the mad quest to copy Fishine's faces. Currently at batch 81-90 and as I am hitting the endpoint I face the problem of running out of the pictures in the gif because of duplicate entries. I am going to try and look some up for the final batch will need just 5-6 more

How do I feel, I can can say that I do feel a lot different about anime faces than at the time I started. Somehow they feel way more familiar, even similar styles just feel as if they are closer but also less engaging. I believe I got pretty desensitized to it at this point but also demystified. I have noticed many patterns that she uses when creating her faces and got some ideas on how to show more emotions. Especially when it comes to tongues and mouths I had to realize how much just small details can make a difference. I also feel it helped a ton with line control and working with hard brushes, it feels so much more natural than before. When I started I almost never used hard brushes but I had to move out of my comfort zone for this and just start doing it I feel way better about it now.

What I still am lost with is the metrics and ratios she uses to create the head and the most importantly the curvature of the face. Somehow my versions always feel too cramped but if I do not make i t cramped then the eyes become too small. The other thing is hair, she makes a lot of details on hair and I still can't really do it so well and naturally on my own. Hair is just really puzzling I get the basics but somehow mines never look so flowy and interesting.

One more batch left to go.

This has been asked before, yes do draw from imagination but I wouldn't post it cause it is /beg/ trash. The point of this entire "mad experiment" was to see what happens if I grind and copy this way. It was more of a joke that someone suggested at a Fishine thread that I, being the madman that probably I am, decided to actually do.

I did attempt a few batches imitating Fishine's style after the 60th copy (I think?), it was even in last thread

it's going to look weird, like i said the younger they are the more their bodies look like potatoes, you may get away with ages likes 14 and above but 8 and below, if you slap a big head with bug eyes is going to look off, the more deformed the face the worse, and even if you do, you still need to adjust some stuff like feet, hips, shoulder to shoulder length, torso and pelvis are shorter, i really don't know much about it but im 100% about those, try looking at lolis and take landmarks, look at boorus for granblue, their lolis are from age 8 or less or rather they look like that.

Negative space as far as artwork is concerned, is basically everything that is not your subject. For example, the (rough)triangle that your subject's right hand makes in your reference vs in your linework can be compared to check proportions and general fidelity. If you did a silhouette selection in a painting software and inverted it, it'll give you negative space. pic related. This might help, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_space

I did study, I studied anatomy and fundamentals but I can't improve. I've been stuck here for a year. No matter how many times I've watched anatomy tutorials and read through anatomy books I can't improve.
I'm stuck.
I want to improve but I can't.

>> No.4248528

>>4248482
When ever you watch a video, you are looking for easy answers and not really studying. When ever you use a reference, you copy the marks made without thinking why the marks were made in the first place. You are taking the hard thought process required out of it, and it is this critical thinking that is the key to good drawings.

Even then with >>4248455 if we are even to treat it as a still life and ignore anatomy and perspective VERY little thought had been put into it. eg Why is the left boob higher than the right, you got the image right infront of you, your observational skills are NON EXISTENT that no anatomy or perspective lesson will help.

I am in total agreement with that guy. It's been a year yet you haven't improved, then this place is not for you and it's best for you to just leave as obviously we are not providing you any benefit.

Stop copying anime. Start drawing more basic forms from fun with a pencil and then learn how to combine these into more organic and complex forms on top of each other. But first you must know how to visualize forms in space, but a lot of people just read through the book see the funny faces and think they're too good to draw them when in fact they're missing the point and a much needed fundamental method of construction.

there was a guy just like him on /beg/ and it was the same deal, people tried to help him, he didn't listen, then people just laugh and finally they got tired of him and just told him to stop wasting his time posting because he wasn't taking any advice and there's no point in posting if you dont want to improve or take any feedback, this is /ic/ not your blog where you can dump your gallery although some people do that but they just want to shill...anyways nobody is going to stop you/him of posting, but there's going to be a point were everyone is just going to ignore you even if you ask for help or just laugh at you and for a good reason.

All these factors can affect the quality of your piece. If shaky lines are a problem, then practice traditionally for now to build up a modicum of pencil control.

i'd the other than the writing (which is usually a dead giveaway) the thing that makes it "not japanese" is the complete lack of respect for lines. you've overworked your lines to a point where they've lost all energy and direction but yet they remain hairy and unappealing. you can probably cherrypick examples where this isn't the case, but by and large, japanese artists have a lot of respect for linework

OK, I'd advise always doing some sort of construction/pre-planning until you really internalize the process of it. There's a lot of little things that can and probably will end up being misaligned if you're going straight into the lineart directly.
I'd suggest trying to figure out the forms and anatomy of what you drew which will help you figure out why it looks off.
the major mistake with the expression is that you're moving the features down instead of actually obscuring them. Both eyes should be at the same height, only the eyelids change position for the expression. To show that, the line above the left side should be at the same height as the other one, because that's the top of the eye and origin of the eyelid, which doesn't move. Same idea with the bottom lid. It's a lot easier to understand if you look at a real eye and what changes about it with expressions.
I would suggest just studying some facial anatomy and trying to deconstruct anime faces and reconstruct them using your understanding of the face. It will give you much better results than blindly drawing or copying faces.

>Effective Art Study Guide
Using the tips from Dorian's book and Marco Bucci's channel:
First, read "Figure Drawing for Artists" while watching "Beginner Figure Drawing Series" (both the same author, same chapters)
Second, read "Figure Drawing - Design and Invention" (comparing forms between Huston and Hampton)
Third, months later, after learning anatomy, gestures and shadows, finally use Pin2D youtube playlists for an "anime" style
Is this right? should I change order?
Also, I can't find "Dorian Iten: Light Guide" (yes, I'm a poorfag)

hands need wrists, hands need top be a tad bigger, ribcage/torso and lower body are looking forward, making the pose more look like you just moved the upper body to the left and connected it with smooth lines to the bottom.
At least, try to think of torso, belly and hips as boxes, so you don't make bending mistakes like this.
