What would I have to draw to gain 1000 followers in a month? Women portraits?

Cumbrain pander is a meme, furry pander is a meme, if youre good you can attract followers doing whatever. If youre dogshit then the only way forward is to pander for a very very long time, 3+ years

how the fuck would anyone here know? Social media is fickle, capricious, and filled with more absurdity than Camus could squeeze into 30 gorillion novels. A thread was shot to death on a particularly hot and bright beach for this.

false. the fact is you cant gain many followers in 2015+5 until you post 5x a day every day from monday to sunday. it doesnt really matter if you are good.

I got about that many during inktober this year posting stuff like pic related. I was averaging about 50 followers a day, and towards the end got up to 100 in one day, and averaged closer to 70. I'm back to about 25/day now.

I've been posting once a day for the last 4 or so months, using 15 hashtags, with about 8 of them being smaller hashtags that I can somewhat easily show up in the top 9-15 posts for, and the rest being a mix of large hashtags for that initial boost of likes from bots or whatever, and the rest being specific to each post.

That's been working for me, the key is consistency both in how often you post, and what kind of content. If people come to your page and see 8 different styles/subjects they won't know what the hell you're about and immediately leave. If you instantly show them "I do landscapes/portraits/furry porn" they'll be way more likely to follow. People want to follow accounts that consistently give them the kind of content they like, not accounts that they don't know what to expect from.

Oh and I know people are often annoyed by the "drawing surrounded by drawing materials and random shit" kind of photos, but A - I'm a photographer who shoots stuff like that for a living, I can't help but sprucing up things I'm photographing, B - a photo like that draws more attention to itself than a white square, or a picture of a sketchbook on a white table, especially when seen as a tiny little square on a hashtag search page, and C - it makes the drawings themselves look more interesting, especially when the "decorations" complement them. Oh and D - people on social media like that shit, there's a reason they're so common after all.

I do 80% weddings/elopements and 20% lifestyle stuff. Only photo I have handy is this one, I haven't really shared any work online (I just send galleries to my clients) in the last year and a half because I started getting bored with it a while ago and decided to pick up drawing and painting, so I can hopefully transition to doing that eventually.

Posting daily was a natural continuation of a daily challenge I did in June (Noah Bradley's June Study Jam). It made me realize I could actually knock out quick paintings daily, which, besides being good for social media growth, is good practice. I just kept doing it and it became a normal thing, I usually just spend 30 min to an hour painting every day, sometimes more if I have time.

I take all my photos with my phone. Put subject by a window in indirect sunlight, turn off all artificial light sources take photo, bring it into Snapseed (free app) for some basic curves adjustment to make highlights pop and add contrast, or fix white balance, then sometimes add a low opacity filter if I want to give it a different vibe. You don't need to be a pro or have pro equipment to take good photos.

As a for the decoration, I literally just grabbed some fake flowers we had bought from Michael's and random stuff that was sitting around my house, then rearranged them differently each day. Takes maybe 10 minutes to set up a shot, take the picture, edit, and post it once you know the process.

Obviously that's longer than just whipping out a phone, taking a half blurry photo of a sheet of paper sitting at an angle on a messy desk lit by your computer screen and some table lamp off to the side, and posting it without hashtags at any random time of the day, but if your goal is to reach a larger audience and actually take advantage of the good sides of social media, you have to put in *a little* effort.

Anon, I really appreciate your detailed response, but you give me the impression of being new here. The fact is that there is a huge disparity between what /ic/ wants to make and what instagram consumes, along with the audiences of the two sites. Much of /ic/ wants to git technically gud and maintain a genuine online presence of passionate, proficiently-made art that both artist and audience can enjoy. This model is often unachievable on fast-paced social media and as a result many people become frustrated by poor numbers or having to make so-called “soulless” art to appease their following.
Basically, a lot of /ic/ just wants to draw digital anime but doesn’t have the means, skill, or knowledge to make daily instagram hits. I don’t want to do trad portraits of grils or landscapes with flowers around it because it feels stupid, boring, and fake.

It is ez to be famous. The problem is do you really want to be know for that one thing you done for the rest of your miserable existence.

I suggest you draw sharks and women in space.

Original idea, nobody done it, cosmic colors, use pink, lots of shades of pink, women with top down well designed anatomy.

Create a relatable female character to target the female audience. Especially if you are posting on Instagram.

Tell a story with your visual of female character in space.

Thank me after you succeed.

I'm not them, but it means you should post at whatever time most of your followers are active.

You can check that in your insights, by switching to either a creator or a business account in your settings. Then look at where most of your followers live, and what time they're most active.

In my case, most of my followers are in the US, so I aim to post at 9am since that's around when the west coast is getting started with work and the east coast is going on lunch break, it tends to be a good time to get more people online. 6am is also good for the same reason.

Disclaimer, I don't have one, I'm self employed (photographer) and usually only work away from home on weekends.

BUT most of what I post are rough sketches I can knock out in 30-45 min. Those inktober spreads took me 25-35 min each. If you're trying to put out fully rendered and refined pieces on a daily basis, you probably won't be able to do that with a day job, but you could probably find 30-60 minutes a day to dedicate to some sketching or a quick painting session. You can do it on your lunch break, after dinner, before bed, whatever works. It doesn't even have to be 30-60 consecutive minutes, you can do 10 min while you're having coffee in the morning, another 15 on your lunch break, and another 20 in the evening.

Or another option is to make a bunch of them in your spare time over a period of a few weeks, so you can then have daily content to share without having to actually draw daily. Then whatever new drawings you make can be added to the queue of stuff to share.

Lol I was talking about Instagram insights, didn't even know twitter had that..
Even then, if you're in the US or use English in your posts, odds are most of your followers will be from the US, so you can just aim to post around the times people in the US are more likely to be checking their social media (in the morning after they wake up, on their lunch break, when they get off work, before bed).

Twitter is different though, in that people there expect multiple tweets a day, so you can try different times and see if any of them work better. Also take a look at when larger accounts tend to post, turn on notifications for a few of them so you can see it as it happens.

Ohhh, well if that's the case you can:

1 - look through the followers you have and try to figure out where they're based, or, even better

2 - just post around peak times for the US or for the country you're in, depending on what followers you want to attract. In either case, morning, lunch, and evening are generally a good bet.

Make sure you use 15-20 hashtags (using all 30 of them seemed to have worse results for me, but you can try that too), some that are large and popular so you can get some quick likes, and some that are less popular and much more specific to what your post is about so you can have a higher chance of being in the top few posts for some of them. If you have very few followers you may need to start *very* small (try hashtags that have only a few thousand posts).
Also go through those hashtags and leave some likes and comments, so people can actually know you exist. Many will return the favor, and some might even follow you.

As for Twitter, post a few times a day, use words that people might be likely to search ("here's a landscape painting I made with watercolors" instead of "here's a painting I made"), a few hashtags, and comment/retweet people's stuff. Also participate in art sharing posts by larger accounts or similar stuff. Twitter takes longer and a bit more luck since it tends to be pretty dependent on other people's retweets.

Good stuff, thanks. Especially about probing around by liking some art from others.
What do likes even do on Instashit, does it recommend your art to other people at random spots? Cause my timeline only has art from people I followed.

>Twitter advice
Yeah, although it's a little awkward, I always type what I drew on the post (Instagram as well), aware that some niche people will look it up.

>Art sharing posts
I still can't bring myself to do that, biting the bullet and spamming the shit out of my followers.

I'm doing somewhat """fine""" on Twitter (about 1 follower a day, at 56) but Instagram is a mystery (10 followers, although I get a shitton more likes).
Also I posted three drawings of the same character, for three days in a row. One was ok and got many likes throughout 3 days, second one was instantly popular (and drove more likes to the first one), the third one is not getting any likes.

I have to figure out if it was the timing, I have no routine/schedule so I have no idea at what time I posted and I can't even make sure I'll be able to post at a given time/date every day, how key would you say it is to be consistent with time/intervals?

>ITT: social media marketing.

Landscape/framing/photographer person, thanks for reminding me of all this. I run a small art related business and constantly have to remind myself to keep up with social media. It’s a habit I have to form still.
One think I don’t think anyone has touched on yet is story. As much as people might complain about framing your artwork with some objects and some art materials, it adds a lot of depth and story to it. A lot of /ic/ has a problem with progressing past drawing women just standing there. IMO the most interesting art is something with a story behind it. Draw all the kawaii desu moeblobs you want but if they aren’t in action you basically are just collecting 2D dollies. Even then, moving beyond tropes tends to get my attention a lot more. I dont really have to see another moeblob all exited to be eating a burger. I’m just spewing my thoughts on the matter out, hope that makes sense.

From your self-description I know exactly who is behind this post. One of the reasons behind your lack of success is because you act like an insufferable faggot and your art isn't that pretty to look at. And if you're going to post similar works on instagram just put them in an album/carousel/whatever it's called. But gambatte and all that.
