eaton's method of explaining anatomy is probably the clearest and most detailed i've seen. You do however need to put in a lot of work inside and outside of his homeworks to try to really remember and use that information. The amount of information he presents is sort of a double edged sword, there's just so must information that you need to really use it a lot to remember it properly.

>>4267007
There is an old mega link to it if you look at the archives, but it's missing about 3 of the video lessons I think. Also note that the course is probably more like one of his lectures that they recorded and then split up into multiple short videos. I'm basing that assumption off of his most recent course he just put out.
So google a few different 4chan archives and you should be able to find one that has the old links. I found them about a week ago but didn't bother to check if they were still functional.
If the links are dead, mention it in the thread and I'll try upload the videos of it that I saved.

No it's not. It's supposed to be like an actual course.

He spends most of his time drawing while not explaining shit and then eats throughout the video as well.

Not exactly someone you would want to learn from despite him being really good at drawing.

Which further proves my point about not having to be the best to teach people how to draw--in fact, it makes more sense to not try to be one of the greatest because it makes you more relatable to the student. I mean, how many people can relate to KJG and his drawing obsession? (Granted, I just pulled this out of my ass. But I am going from past experiences. The best teachers were always good at what they did but never the best. The worst teachers were always the ones that were ridiculously amazing at whatever it was they were teaching.)

>> No.4267457

>>4267398
When I watch any video with KJG in it trying to explain shit, he just tells anyone listening what he knows without simplifying it or tailoring it in any way for someone trying to learn from him.
This makes it so that any student that wants to gain anything from his lectures or classes needs to put in a hell of a lot more effort into trying to comprehend and analyze whatever the hell he's talking about than they would if they were learning from a different teacher. This kind of effort is something that would be usually placed on the teachers shoulders.
I do think that his courses are actually good, but they need to be intensely watched multiple times to get any kind of use out of them, and even then he's more teaching his process and how he got to the skill level he is on than he is guiding students step by step through their artistic journey.

It's possible that a lot of people had their hopes up that he would share some kind of bizarre technique that would unlock the secrets of drawing, only to be disappointed to find out that it's just observing, visualizing, and drawing constantly, on top of grinding fundies.

>You're too /beg to understand.

You're so full of shit kid. There's a difference between being difficult to understand and not explaining shit. KJG falls so far into the latter that it makes your defense of him show you how arrogant you are.

>> No.4267539

>>4267477
You seem to have misinterpreted my post.
I'm saying that KJG isn't a good teacher, but if the student puts in effort they can get a lot out of his course. Saying this, it's still not going to teach you to draw, but it can help to guide your improvement.
Just listen to what he says and consider his points.
You could boil everything he said down to just think about shit before drawing it.

Now calm down, draw from life, and grind your fundies.

James irks me. I want to like James, but I can't. Is it his beautiful face? Is it the fact that he never posts any finished art? That his feed is just endless stream of sketches and lineart? He just comes across as a student that wasn't good enough to get any work so started doing his college lessons on youtube for quarters.
Contrast that with Jeff Watts who did art as a hobby with his father, only went into art because of a leg injury preparing while cycling professionally and was so good that calarts asked him to teach while he was still in college. Then he set up his own school at 23. While also working in the movie industry freelance.
Or if you want a closer comparison, Peter Han who worked in concept design straight out of college and only started teaching because his mentor died and didn't want Dynamic Sketching to die with him.
What I'm saying is, be careful who you spend your previous time learning from. It might be more lost time unlearning their mistakes later.

His youtube videos are shortened version of these so yes, there is new material

>>4272658
The way I look at his material is: He EXPLAINS how stuff works. So for example when he explains how gravity affects material thus creating folds, you get to actually understand the PROCESS behind it, so its easier for you to draw, because you wont have to "guess" anything, you will follow a logical train of thought. That's how I approach all of his videos - I dont try to copy anything he draws, I just listen, take notes and try to draw something using the knowledge.
That being said, I dont really use his stuff too much. The clothing folds videos I enjoyed and got a good use of, the rest I dont care about.

>>4272515
Yeah, this pretty much sums it up. He's forever a student/teacher, never doing any actual commissions. Or maybe he is, but why isnt he showing these then? I always tell people to look up their teacher's portfolio first. If you dont see anything that wasnt created solely as a lesson material, think hard about why they're teaching anything in the first place. He's a pretty classic case of a guy that understands something, runs to make a video about it to "educate" everyone and never puts this knowledge to use anywhere else. His painting videos are a good example, guy clearly cannot paint to save his life.
Not hatin tho, i like his drawings. I just wish he made some actual personal illustrations. And he could be a liiiiiittle bit less cocky.

I find his faces are all formulaic and samey. Obviously you start off with an abstration like reilly or loomis but you should still take into consideration the actual models differences from your default memorized proportions and abstractions.
These female portraits could be the same model with wigs on. I think he even fucked up the nose on the far right one.

Really like Jeff Watts and Robert Watts but not impressed with his other teachers in comparison.

Seems like a common theme among instructors who place a lot of emphasis on construction. They are great at drawing averaged figures but they often can't into likeness, aka drawing the actual subject. They all draw their models like objects.

What workflow do you even mean? They teach tons of topics, it's not all life drawing but that's what people typically want to get instruction for.

sorry i generalized too much, i mean the whole style of construction that proko and others similar to him use, they dont rely on intuition enough and really "sculpt" every single body part out. its not time efficient, it doesnt allow to put your ideas on paper fast enough. i dont think its a bad thing in general obviously, fuck i mean its good for beginners, but when you're a bit more advanced i cant imagine anyone going through that whole construction routine. hope i made myself clear now. not hating on watts im just complaining like im always do
