Is it okay to draw for fun even if it's bad? I miss being a kid and drawing things that were fun to draw but now I know it is bad so I can't anymore. But grinding studies is soul sucking.

>> No.4227685

like many things in life anon, it's a balance. you need to trudge through the studying but give yourself a break now and again and draw something for fun if only just to see what you need to work on and if you've improved.
analyze your "fun" work, identify what needs work, then study those things.
alternatively, draw something for fun, but incorporate studying into the project by doing studies of your subject to prime yourself.

oh my god anon you make me so fucking sad
yes, it's absolutely fine to draw for fun even if it's bad; you should enjoy the process of drawing. if that's not the case, then stop and pick up another hobby; there's no shame in that
try to do this: get an idea, study fundies that are relevant to that idea, draw thumbnails and sketches related to the idea, draw the idea
eventually, after some time, you'll get better. drawing shit you enjoy will motivate you to go forward. challenging yourself with projects will push you to study
try taking notes of what you learn in your studies, i can guarantee you won't be able to remember everything
godspeed anon

What's stopping peopple from doing both? I spend some time grinding and some time drawing from reference. I'm a noob, so I don't find any fun in drawing for 'fun', I only draw shit. I think I will stick to this routine for a couple of months until I have something to draw.

I actually go to therapy for a lot of reasons, mainly because I wanted to kill myself for being so short, and one of the advice I got regarding drawing is that if it caused more stress and was a negative impact in my life that I should quit.

It doesn’t matter if your art is shit, as long as you don’t post it online. Keep that shit too your, unless you want to feel like shit, like the anons here.

Why do you need someone to tell you what to do? Are you not your own man? Stop searching for gratification from others and just enjoy yourself for once.

Who’s gonna stop you?
You don’t need anyone’s approval to draw. If it makes you happy, do it!

Nothing wrong with drawing for fun.

Being able to look at your piece of shit drawing and find it fun/appealing is a whole nother story.

Yes. And never, ever show it or post about it here. Trust me on that. If it makes you happy, keep doing it.

Emphasizing this part. There are too many people on here that want to eat your soul, don't give them the chance to.

such is the issue with the board having 'critique' in the name, it invites not just useful advice, but everybody to look at a piece until they see something wrong with it.
