**Don’t aimlessly study the fundamentals or anime. Learn the fundamentals (form, value, color, composition, etc.) through properly copying anime.**

General anime style discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Keep most of your personal works for /alt/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good anime styled references (illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.) to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

There will always be someone out there who is more skilled or more creative than you. If you're of the mindset that drawing is "so fucking easy", chances are you're likely aren't challenging yourself and learning new techniques, and are dawdling within your comfort zone.

you dont need to remember every single tiny miniscule detail, break it down into chunks, the same way bodybuilders break their workouts into muscle groups. The abs twist and flex outwards and inwards with the abdomen, it acts like a big pillow except the half above the navel is more rigid and obviously harder-looking. the ribcage is fixed, but its exposition on the sides depends on the angle of the arm to the torso. the lats are always roughly in the same position, but in a similar way get exposed more when the arms are raised. the pecs stretch when the arms are raised and compress when the arms are pointing towards the centre, perpendicular to the axis of the torso. the traps stretch and compress depending on the clavicle's angle. literally look at yourself in the mirror for 5 minutes if you dont understand it

No matter the low number of likes no matter the aspects that are lacking in my work, I search for answers to drawing pristine anime then draw, giving up former pastimes just to do so. Her voice is heavenly cute and her modesty is much wanted in this sinful world with its Discord culture. Where people are hyperactive and draining, she is pleasant, the kind you want to see when you come home. Seeing such a sweet girl reminds me to make the best of my worst by wanting to safeguard a pure maiden from her trashy friends and do earn such a place, I must impress through art. Far too often does the anime artist have their mind on coolness or lewdity while not understanding the calm of Nepgear's presence. The art she is given understands framing so well that it shatters my heart into a million to see someone with talent feature needless negative space. Bit by bit, hair, eyes, shading, framing, I will make this style mine.

So all that sweet talk was really nothing, try drawing her over and over and over again through the course of years and see if you don't feel the same way you do now after going through the pain, grief, and despair of having to deal with her fundamentally. looks really flat below the belly button because you have no good overlaps. hiding the back arm like that is awkward, i would have posed it differently. shape is overall a good idea but very awkward cropping of the top and legs almost right as the knee. don't crop so close to where the viewer expects to see the rest like at the knees or the tip of the hair.

>>4222585
hampton is not a good anatomy book at all, in fact he draws some incorrect volumes. scott eaton's anatomy course is the best video course imo and it helped me memorize everything important (rey bustos is fine too). for books i'd look at elliot goldfiner, richer, strength training anatomy, van der poel, anatomy for sculptors, bridgman constructive anatomy, walter peck. recognize the major muscles visible on the surface. get familiar with how it works and then see if any of those stick with you. i found the video lectures stuck with me the most.

Maybe that's because I myself go through the lewds like a chain smoker, never save or and never look at one picture twice.

And I can't spend days crafting something an Anon would just skip through in 5 seconds an never look twice at.

I used to love drawing when i was rapidly progressing on my newbie gains. I could feel myself growing every day and it was exciting and ambitious.

Hell the works I'm posting were drawn on my second year after I first picked up the stylus. I was high on my own gains and ambitions and I loved waking up early just to draw the entire day every day, quit gaming completely, quit smoking so I would sleep tighter and shorter and just studied and drawn all the fucking time.

But then i stopped growing and here i am, i only got worse since then.

Your anatomy isn't terrible but it's far from great, so that's always something you can work on. You could also add a lot of visual interest to your piece by adding in more color variation, if that's something you don't know how to do or are intimidated by, it's a good sign that you need to study color theory.

I'm guessing the hair in this piece isn't done yet? If it is, it looks really odd to have minimal flat shading in a piece that's otherwise more rendered.

Have you ever tried to paint traditionally? Changing up the medium might help you gain back some of the excitement for the process, and you can learn a lot about colors if you have to mix your paint. A lot better than just leaving it flat, but some highlights are still a good direction to go in. To over-generalize a bit, form shadows are soft and cast shadows have hard edges.

You slapped a 6 pack on her but you never heard about the sides and the other muscles.
She has no sides, no arm muscles, no pelvis or ass, her ribs stick out like on the Joker in the last movie, but she has one powerful rectus abdominis. Like imagine have one single muscle in your body.

Also the tiny little wrinkles on her face immediately turn her into an old lady. Since in stilization everything is very simplified, streamlined and many details are omitted when you draw a tiny wrinkle it really fucking sticks out as a major and important detail.

hi /asg/, today I return with the next batch of 71-80 of the mad quest, this batch was coming really slowly and was not very inspiring as it was just the same character that also had a simplistic face. I got bored and even frustrated sometimes about her longer face and smaller eyes.

Currently I only feel that my speed with the current new solid brush I a using may have improved. But I had troubles drawing too big, as for the studies I keep it 100% view only and no canvas flipping which is also not idea for drawing accurate art. It makes it harder and I make mistakes a lot, I still can't seem to find the logic on how the original artist draws the face line and the head proportions. But what is done is done for now.

Next time there will be a turn for batch of my own attempts instead of studies.

All the original designs like the big tits and thickness are different its just not the same charater. All this redraw screams is that youre too lazy to make the original work. Certain kind of "artists" always get angry when a redline improves their piece *too* much.
They would rather have cute comments like:
>Hey maybe move that arm 2 inches to the left, but other than that everything looks great keep going anon! :))))

But the thing is: if the artwork is so fundamentally broken, a truly honest and high-effort redline would have to completely dismantle and rebuild the piece from the ground up.
And I honesty like seeing things like this, reminds me of teal redlines.

no lol, you are missing the point. The redrawn "redline" isnt an improvement, its an unnecessary flex lol. You dont need to change the perspective, gesture or w/e bullshit of the original intent. It doesnt help planning because the OP in the original place doesnt know how to push a piece like that, hes not taking into consideration how other people think and their skill level. Its like, hey play catch up with me. The only thing useful is the shadow tip for form, but thats easily fixable idk why you would claim this as a fundamentally broken piece. The pose is easily fixable, instead of her right arm being hidden you could have raised it and made a hand pose instead. Her left arm can be repositioned to rest on her hip. its basic changes and the piece would still work and actually IMPROVING the piece. doing a complete redraw is just extra and needless as fuck lol.

No, the pose is compositionally fucking dull and awkward. The redline did a spanking good job in fixing this.

>Her left arm can be repositioned to rest on her hip. its basic changes and the piece would still work
Your entire post is just confusing. You're allowed to make changes, but not *too* much, even though every single additional fix contributes to a linear improvement of the piece?

I don't get it. I get that it can be seen as a flex, but the redline still *did* improve the piece and showed how it's done. Your personal feelings about the redliner won't change that fact.

Not a very good point to make. /ic/ have access to the world's best resources on art, covering all sorts of schools of thoughts, even diametrically opposing ones. We also often see the kind of redlines that you personally favor.

Yet very little have made it. Shall we abandon everything then?

>Redlines like your pic are about as helpful as finding a stock image and saying learn from this.
You lost me on this one. Both of the redlines explained their thought process and decisions verbally and visually. They both corrected fundamental mistakes of the piece, from composition to anatomy to construction and explained how. It's fairly straightforward, actually.

If you still genuinely, from the bottom of your heart unclouded by any biases, can't see the utility in these kind of redlines, then I'd rather stop here because we're too fundamentally different that we'd probably never agree.

Because they are entirely different poses and composition the artist didt learn anything hes hust gawking at basically a different drawing with the only thing original are the design elements. What they did is that they corrected their composition. I don't know why you are so insistent on this point.

>You can tell the op x and y and expect them to follow the wore of advice but they never do
Of course you can't puppeteer an artist to do exactly what they need to do. Improvement and initiative is entirely the responsibility of each individual artists, even in the most tightly mentored scenario.

>Again you are not changing a mind set or a contioned artist
But they do. They clearly explained the fundamental mindset of how to think about poses from the ground up.
This to me is a lot more valuable then something like telling people that their deltoid is 2 inches too short.

>Just wait till his next post thats the real kicke
Yes that's how learning works, you don't instantly become good overnight.
There is no instant bullet resources that will make you magically good.
And the sad reality is that some people, like some of the artists you mentioned in the previous post, will probably never reach the upper echelon and that's just how life is. Even the most celebrated mentors like Watts can still produce oddballs like Proko.

But that still does not detract from the objective merits displayed by said resource and should not be used as a reason not to use it.

I started to learn to draw around October or September last year, I suffer from chronic depression and made learning to draw one of my main objectives this year. I'm not sure If I'm being successful, I feel like each one of my drawings is a painful process.
I'm trying to draw something resembling an scenario/background for everything I do to avoid that bad habit of characters floating in a blank page. Whenever I finish something, I get back to it in the following days and keep trying to improve it until I become tired of it.

Construct a perspective grid, and reduce everything to simple shapes before you add detail.

The thing is you need to understand the planes and form pretty well to be able to paint like this. It is not just technique. And you're not quite there yet.

The muscle definition of her right leg makes it look flat. I forgot the name of it but that vag tendon doesn't go that far down the leg. Her arm seems a bit long. She has a very sharp face but cute, seems like she'd have a kuu/dandere personality, though the face anatomy seems a bit off around her eyebrows and ear. Good variation between the different type of surfaces (skin, cloth, metal). The metal of her gauntlet could be shinier, if it's supposed to be metal and not leather. The background is impressionistic and simple which is fine because the character is the main focus, but the clouds are a bit hazy and formless. Good color temperature on the sky and mountains, looks like morning. The octopus has some good lighting but the thick lines make him look flat. Overall pretty good, no autistic fetishes or western style.

I don't know what i should work on or how to work on it.
I just keep doodling, completing draw thread requests on other boards and doing figure sketching.

What exactly should I work on to improve?

Learn the fundamentals
Read books
Put in like 2 hours everyday and you're set

With the proper learning you can improve way faster then some guy mindlessly drawing since they were a baby.
Actually look up some people that has drawn their entire life and you'll see how little it matters.

Additionally you can look at tons lf art and try to decelop a good taste, really important imo

Hard round brush.

I'm not exactly sure how to describe it but there are a bunch of parts that feel like flat gradients rather than sculpted/painted forms (doesn't help that there are literally some elements that are just a paint bucketed gradient).

I've wanted to since I was like like 17. It's been 7 years and I haven't, only because I haven't put in the time. Two years of actual practice means a lot compared to doing nothing.
