Mom got it framed. Wished she didn't. She spent too much, and I don't really like.

Brass is of Sir William Fitzralph circa 1320.

Someone rate this shit/10 please.

Do you think I could sell it on craigslist? How much? It just bothers me and needs to go.

Won't your mom be sad if you sell it

Don't make your mom sad. One day she'll be gone and you will feel terrible about every little thing you did to upset her. She was just trying to make you happy by getting it framed

it looks good for what it is. I'm not a huge fan of that style, but I looked up the original and that looks basically identical to yours, so it's good

The gold looks a lot better.

I have another one in gold that I paid to get framed. It's of a different brass.

The bronze wax just doesn't apply very evenly for whatever reason and it doesn't reflect light as well. And if I pushed harder, most of the details from the brass would start filling in and you wouldn't see as much contrast.

Here's a gold rubbing of a brass of St. George and the Dragon.

This one I actually like.

how long does it take to make these and how many years of training would I need to make similar stuff?

Dude, it's just rubbing

It takes a little bit of skill, but not much. Mostly you just want to apply uniform pressure and generally rub in the same direction of the entire brass. Usually, the bigger the brass, the better your rubbing will look. Unfortunately, most brasses they allow you to rub are smaller facsimiles. Finally, avoid rubbing outside of the subject.

Here's an old video on brass rubbing.

When the brass is that big, she doesn't really need to exercise any technique, and she just sort of goes wild on it. I don't recommend that on a smaller facsimile.

Dude, it's just rubbing. I guess maybe an hour to experiment with different colors and get the feel for how much pressure is too much and too little. I usually do one throw away one before I start on one I want to keep.

Unless your mom is a cunt, don't do shit to make her sad. If you don't like it then don't hang it up rather than pawn it off to some stranger

Stop fishing for compliment
Plus if you cared so much about this whole art piece good art piece bad dynamic you'd have discarded any attention to the piece you finished and that your mother framed and got to work on another one to improve

Plus it aint even bad holy shit did you have to make a thread about that crap ? Don't be a dick to yourself and to your mom, leave it there and get working on another, better one, if it pleases you.

The brasses aren't available until next year. They are only available 2 months each year in my area. I already rubbed that one THREE times..

I'm not fishing for a compliment. I guess I'm just asking if it looks ok, and worth trying to sell. The consensus seems to be it looks ok, and maybe someone will buy it. I guess it will never look ok to me no matter what anyone says.

Could you please tell ma how this technique does work?
As much as i could figure out is that you put your medium on an uneven surface and rubb the wax over.
But does this mean that you've engraved the surface by your own? If so what kind of tools do you need to create it?
