i learned recently that i've hold my pencil wrong all my life and i tried to do it correctly and it sucks! i thought i was bad before now i'm terrible!
is the tripod grip really that bad? am i doomed?

Pencil grip really isn't that important. I guess just try varying it around for a while. I use different grips for different tasks.
