How do I get over this?

Just accept that you'll always see flaws in your work (doesn't mean you need to hate it).
Also when following a tutorial compare your first try to your 10th or 20th it may be still not good enough but definitely better than first

You have too much pride. Look at yourself honestly and make yourself stronger.

there are many causes for NGMI, but not having grit and expecting quick results is #1 by huge margin

What is it about people who buy all these supplies and courses but don't put in any effort? It's clear they have interest in art if they're willing to spend all this money but...could it just be something not taken cared of personally that's stopping them from going forward?

doing something is a good way of training to do that something

but when that something is too hard for you to do it, doing something else easier, but with some correlation is a good way of training for the harder something

such as tracing

Make a study drawing that you are not emotionaly involved in, such as a still life.
Understand that gettign good at art takes years. Not a couple of years, more like 6-10.

A miserable mentality will keep you from progressing, find joy in the journey, and in your progress.

Draw.

Lots of things in life can be solved with money.
And I don't know if this is applicable to other people, but I haven't ever really tried to learn something complicated by myself, so now that there is an actual challenge I haven't learned how to deal with it. School has difficult things in it, but you always have a teacher and your peers. When it comes to art it's just me
I've struggled with physical stuff like sports and such, but drawing is (for me) on a whole different level in terms of struggle. Doesn't help that a shit drawing is a shit drawing no matter how you look at it while a poor performance in [sport] can still be feel rewarding because at least you are working on bettering your health, or you had fun with friends.

So I don't necessarily think it's a personality thing, but just a case of people picking something up a hobby and for the first time really struggling to make something they like, and that's frustrating.

Anyway OP, keep going. I get that same feeling as you do sometimes, but there are two main things I think you should do.
>Stop pressuring yourself to be perfect, don't set drawing up to be this huge thing mentally and try to have fun with it
If you do this, you will loosen up a bit and let your mind be creative
>Keep drawing
It'll go away in time.

>> No.4185963

Understand that the grind pays off, and if you focus on improving your weakest skills (which you should do) the feelings of disappointment and shame won't go away but it's worth it. Redraw your old art once in a while to see that you've improved.

this is good advice, the lowest points in my art career were those where I deluded myself into the fact that I made it and I'm an awesome artist now. During those moments your ego goes into self-defense mode and refuses to draw anything for fear of shattering the delusion, you know that your next drawing won't live up to how great you're telling yourself that you are so you're petrified to actually draw anything and end up in a situation like OP.

Once you can just accept that you simply aren't that good, but through study you may eventually improve, you can relax and just draw again without such high expectations.

keep doing it and post them on the interwebz, I have the same problem and I'm posting things I'm ashamed of because otherwise I'll never learn to expose myself and accept myself
