If the camera killed the populararity of realistic drawing/painting why are there more artists alive today who are famous and make money for being human photocopy machines then there were realistic drawing artists prior to the invention of the camera?

Because in this generation people are tired of seeing bulshit modern art. Realistic shit is labor intensive and takes time to master. It's not peculiarly heavy on creativity but it shows you at least are not a modern artist scammer.

Plus people like famous people so photos of them get likes. But as soon as someone goes a little deeper they will get bored soon of realistic art.
