The right is technically better but I like the composition and feel of the left instead. If you stayed closer to that concept on the right I think it would've been stronger. The only notable improvements are really the forms of the figures and butterflies.

left
>Interesting, unusual color choices, with the red sticking out noticeably in very small places, drawing the eye to the hands and eyes only
>The dude's eye isn't really looking at the butterfly, but the woman is looking at him, and my eyes focus on her face, the man's face, then the butterfly and hands, in that order.
>Hair has a really cool framing flow, the texture on the background frames it in an opposite manner.
>Purple is an unusual color choice and sticks out
>No light source

right
>"Normal" and more colors, there's more red, including the red butterfly which seems like it's trying to be the focus, but the red makes the eyes go everywhere, including to the side where nothing's going on. I pointlessly want to look at the decorations on her chest.
>Too much detail in the background, feels cluttered. Might look better with more harmonized color and less contrast
>Character's focus are everywhere. The man feels like he's still not looking at the butterfly but past it instead. Woman looking off to the side? this breaks the flow so much in comparison to the left, what is she worried about?
>Background is too detailed. The 3D feel is nice but it's still distracting, much like the extra red.
>Topleft lighting on hair, right lighting on face, top left lighting on clothes.

For the first half year it was a shitshow of random youtube videos, mediocre udemy courses drawing boxes cylinders and 8 head tall stick figures. I think its more you have to learn how structure and anatomy works before you can break it. so for instance with anime, you study a broken skull, with "soul", learn real anatomy and end up having "soulless" drawings, and have to learn how to break the anatomy for the soul to come back. Its all about learning structure, then appeal.

Make sure to draw stuff you enjoy drawing. I usually alternate between drawing something from imagination, and then drawing something from a reference as realistically as I can. Then, when I do another drawing from imagination, I use what I learned in that last study to try to make it better. I think this is a good method for learning specific lessons, then really internalizing them, while also not holding yourself back creatively. I also doodle a lot and it helps to do lots of low-stakes drawings where you can just mess around.

Been drawing from references for a while now. I used to do more creative pieces but I was always shit at the basics like clothing, anatomy etc. Just self teaching with art books when I'm not working, steadily getting more into it after giving up video games recently.

My drawings all feel strange to me, like my lines or paint strokes don't seem right when I compare myself to everyone else online, so I don't know if I'm drawing at a strange resolution or pen settings or something but it makes me feel bad, I don't usually talk to anyone about my art or post online

Don't draw every strand of hair unless you are going to do the same level of detail across your whole work, it takes focus away from the overall piece

I like that you are focused on trying to do a painted feel, it will benefit if you take some more time to refine the edges and go into some more detail overall, also decide on if you want to do animu faces or real faces, at the moment it seems like a mixture
