I just got my first tablet (xp pen deco). If I draw a quick line then the pressure works as normal. If I linger for too long before starting (barely even half a second), the line always come out as full pressure. Just want to ask if this is a normal behavior.

>Why does everything i make seem so extremely messy and unclean.
The value range you use for your shadows is too narrow. To make it look better I can suggest making the dark areas darker, this will help you to add more midtones which will make it easier for you to describe the form. You will have "more breathing room" to work with between light and shadow if your darks are darker.

In your case I would suggest you train your value perceptions more, do it by making some drapery/sphere studies. Also practice making value ranges with your pencils using different crosshatching methods. A good idea is to make a value/tone test with your pencils (shown on pic) to test what works better. You can even cut these out and use them for references as you learn to sue the pencils. If you haven't tried yet you could also consider holding your pencil in a different way to help controlling your pencil pressure for different uses, google "how to hold pencil for shading" and check the images tab for more ways for that

Consider using some softer pencils as well, softer pencils can create darker shades easier but also can be accidentally smudged by your hand so keep that in mind. You can place an extra sheet of paper under your hand to minimize this.

here is a general tutorial as well if you have the time to read through it

Needs some block shading if you're gonna add detailed makeup. She also looks too long in the torso area. If you wanna make Fat Tits, the size of the tits is dependent on the ratio between the tits and the body to look big.
Besides that, not bad. I like the line work a lot.
>>4151908
Lines are too thick. Body isnt too bad though. Remember construction works best thin so you can build the meat on after. Look at the thickness of Loomis lines.
Hair also needs to be tilted with the head. The hair is bent right if his head was facing straight.
His nipples also look weird but that's kinda trial and error. For males, it might look better to omit the nipples and focus on muscle mass.

Anyone here know what exactly he is talking about here:

https://youtu.be/k0ufz75UvHs

I'd consider using the method of I knew how to exactly. I mainly want to draw characters so do I do stuff like draw a properly proportion head 20 times then play around with said proportions afterwards? Or do I play and test after the first one?

Sorry for being retarded; I'm just not sure if I get this

Do you need to buy a tablet specifically for drawing? What's the difference between a regular tablet and the one for drawing? My friend has a nice tablet that he's not using and would give it to me for a very small price

>> No.4153339

>>4153318
The difference is the integration with a stylus/pen and the hardware that comes with it.
ie, a Wacom Cintiq has the hardware and integration to work properly and accurately with a stylus, and is built to only do that, while some random general purpose tablet is not built for the same thing. Usually means you lose out on pressure sensitivity and tilt functionality, may see increased lag and parallax etc. You also have to buy a stylus that may or may not work in the apps you use.
General purpose tablets CAN work, there are people that use them, but for a better experience you should get an actual drawing tablet.
There are also other details like having shortcut keys (I don't use them, but most people swear by them) and having a better surface to draw on.

It's just a matter of using the right tool for the purpose you're applying it to. You wouldn't use a hammer for a screw.
Or you could just use pen and paper and save a lot of money.

>whats with porn artists and jumping straight into things with no practice and then wondering what they need to do to get better?

It's likely because they're really ambitious to draw what they fantasize about to the point where they just jump right into it without studying anything. It's not just porn artists that do that tho, I'd say any kind of aspiring artist (painters, cartoonists/animators, etc.) is susceptible to drawing right ahead without doing anything to study or practice. I'm certainly guilty of it, and while it can be admirable to chase after what one wants, it's not wise to get ahead of oneself like that. At some point you need to stop and focus on your faults, even if you have to start off with a bunch of cubes.

This is what anyone tells me whenever I ask for help on how to draw anime. Doesn't help that it sometimes takes fucking hours for someone to reply on here (/ic/).
Realism is ugly and unappealing, vehicles are uninteresting, nature is uninteresting, buildings are uninteresting, I just want to fucking draw anime girls and guys. Is that asking too much. Stop telling me to read some shitty book about realism, I hate it.

>> No.4155379

>>4155374
there's no difference between drawing anime and a realistic figure. The difference is in the amount of knowledge and detail you put in to draw and render it all. You have to know traditional realistic figure drawing before you can stylize, otherwise you're just gonna forever copy your betters. All the Jap books on drawing anime give you the same information as Loomis's books or figure drawing courses; you just get it served in the style of wonky anime.

You have to know 3d form, perspective, rendering, all that FUNDAMENTAL, TRADITIONAL shit to draw anime. There's no shortcuts in education, only perseverance and patience on your behalf.

but nope, even if I never plan on drawing realism, I still have to learn how to draw realism for 4 years because apparantly that's how every single japanese artist (that westerners can't even talk to) did it

Not the guy you were replying to, but successful anime artists know the fundamentals and the anatomy of people (ie, "realism") and then stylize their characters into anime based off of that.
You don't have to draw intricately detailed and realistic people, but you do have to know how to construct a body, what the anatomy is like, how to put it into perspective and how to work with light in order to make a good looking anime character.

Just as the guy you replied to was saying, the anime artists use their knowledge of the fundamentals and anatomy to draw stylized bodies, and you should focus on learning those in order to create good looking characters.
Split your time between learning the fundamentals and "studying", and drawing the anime characters you like.

You are both missing the point of the /beg/ thread. This is not about arguing what one wants to do or doesn't want to do, nor what the optimal way is for achiving the best results.

The point is to help each each other even if we are all /beg/s. You can tell literally everyone in the thread that they should read Loomis or go and take an art course but that does not help them right now. It's like asking you math teacher to help you with a math problem and it's like she would be telling you to go and read the entire coursebook again or go and repeat the previous grade. Sure if one would have plenty of time to burn like having an extra free year of their life then repeating all the material again would probably be a wise solution but the world doesn't work that way. People here in /beg/ are not studying based on a standardized curriculum because this isn't art school (something /ic/ regularly mocks and memes about by the way) people here are from all walks of life with different backgrounds and art skills. Being told to spend the next 1-2 years to learn everything is not realistic advice because if they had the option they probably would have already taken it.

Fundies are essential, yes, no arguments there but art is a massive interlaced subject and everyone knows many random pieces of the puzzle, the /beg/ thread is the place where we help each other putting a few more puzzle pieces into place. We all make mistakes but we also learn from each other' mistakes. If someone doesn't want to learn them that is his decision, if someone wants to learn them and works for that still takes a long time and effort and they will still be /beg/s for months to come no matter how much they grind.

If you keep getting angry about people being /beg/s in the /beg/ thread then go to /draw/ or some other place where people are no longer /beg/s and save the frustration for yourself and everyone else.

>> No.4155786

>>4155733
You need to keep track of your vanishing points particularly on the horizon line. All horizontal vps should be on the horizon line. If lines are parallel, then they need to converge to the same point. Some of your lines fail to do that.

You are also using 3 vps with the camera right at the center which makes it look more warped. Practice on more simple perspective first, either above or below the horizon line so you can see the top or bottom of the box which will help you get it.

Also you can space out your vps more. The closer they are, the closer the object appears to the camera and more angled it is.

Most of your work is very stiff, when making a figure out of boxes remember they don't need to be completely boxes. Some sides will be twisting and bending, typically on the side that has the most amount of weight, which is also how you're going to be able to show nice gesture.
