What do you guys do when you haven't drawn in a very long time and want to get back into it?

I have a entire day off work and want to use it to draw, but so far every time I stop after a few seconds and just go back to watching youtube videos or reading threads on this godforsaken website....

You don't have to draw. I mean, less competition for me.

>less competition for me
Isn't that cute.
Im not an aspiring professional, nor do I desire to "compete" with you or anyone else for that matter. Drawing to me isn't some kind of huge rat race.
get over yourself.

Heh, that's why you're busy watching Linus Tech Tips while I'm here getting gainage. With that mindset you'll never make it anywhere, hobbyist or otherwise.

It might be frowned upon but if you're just trying to get back into it just copy your favorite pieces
I like to use tiny sketchbooks because after such a long time not drawing a huge sheet of arches or a big sketchbook is kind of daunting - like the drawing has to be "worth it" - and its just to have fun anyway so why not. Inktober and similar Theme a Day excersizes are a way to get an idea started, also planning a series of small works is a way to get rid of that "this has to be a unique and perfect composition" mindset, i dont know maybe thats just me.. I find it easiest to "get in the flow" by hatching so I grab a Mucha border like these and fill the space with a bird or fish or flowers or a combo of those, it really doesnt matter as long as you enjoy yourself. Best of luck.

Also maybe spend less time on 4chan.. literally anywhere else is better. Someone shouting "KiLl YoUrSeLf nIGgEr FaGgOt" isnt a thing you would tollerate in person, why let anyone shout it at you online? Just watch - someone will say basically the same thing to this comment, its just how people on this site function :/

You have to be in the proper environment/mindset to do things you want to do but need a little push to do so. Make another Youtube account thats for things related to your goals[this case,art/drawing]. Use that account for that subject only and so you'll be more motivated to do that subject because the environment in that account promotes your subject. Just do what's related to what you want to do and will encourage you to do it.
I do art in the living room so theTV will be connected to my productive account. I'll have drawing sessions or "walking in japan" videos. Have that running in the background encourages me to be productive.

If you need an "entire day off" to draw that means you don't take it seriously. You know it, BTW, that's why it's so hard to start. You know it's pointless cause you don't really want it. If you did you would draw every day even on a napkin

anyway, that's it, you don't deserve any more words

You need discipline anon-kun. If you are not used to drawing you will hardly spend an entire day drawing. Just try to draw 1 hour.
Also use the pomodoro technique, set it at something like 20/10.

I start off by doodling. Not worrying about if something is good or not, just trying to put ideas down. If I end up liking something, I work on a nicer version of it, or if it was good on it's own, work on cleaning it up. Just take it gradually. don't take a long break and then expect to be able to sit down and just pump out gold
