should I really bother learning all the complex anatomy if I just want to draw stuff like this? I did

So I know basic perspective and construction and I don't know if I really need to invest my time in anatomy.
By now it seems like I can learn to draw simple anime stuff like this by applying what I already know from the courses mentioned above + copying other artists for detail (minus the coloring for now of course)

If that's really what you want, I'd suggest going into anime girls while doing a bit of anatomy on the side. No need to go deep into stuff, but it'll help you understand how the stylised anatomy work.

Thank you for showing a textbook example of the uncanny valley, and I wholeheartedly agree yours is at least two or more levels below the example you posted as a good artist would know to keep forms in relation to each other and that is not limited to just proportion but keeping forms simplified throughout the entire figure especially if you're going to slap an animu face. If you truly knew the importance of anatomy you would know how even more important it is to compliment the abstract forms on a heavily stylized genre.

There are some basic principles about anatomy you SHOULD know, but anatomy isn't something that is cookie cutter perfect. Arguably, I think form is more important than anatomy.

One time I referenced a figure exactly (It was a photograph btw), and someone told me his legs were too short. The guy in the picture just happened to have short legs. It wasn't wrong. When you hold yourself to a strict standard of "Oh x should be EXACTLY this way" your work starts to become souless.

So, I think the goal is to study anatomy, but try not to be too anal about it. be a bit more loose, and most importantly experiment.

form IS more important that anatomy, since if you fuck up form there isn't any way you can recover that with good anatomy.

But if you don't know your anatomy, your figures will end up looking like a lumpy mess. You need to know where the landmarks are and how muscles connect to them. If you do pinups/porn, you HAVE to know your anatomy or else it will just look wrong.
