off topic but Kishimoto is so underrated. In his prime, it was hard to name a current Jump artist with a better understanding of anatomy and perspective.

His art did turn to shit over time but his stuff during the Rescue Sasuke arc was incredible.

Admittedly, I never looked at a whole lot of Kishimoto's stuff but his early Naruto art was really good. I think I remember really liking his covers and colored work.

It's a shame that he declined so much. Not a fan of his current art as much. It's flatter, more dull, and more simplified than his older stuff.

I remember thinking his random perspective shit was pretty cool. Nowadays, I wonder if he used 3d software, or if he was just that talented.

this reminds me of pop music
>be Madonna
>amazing composer makes music for you
>amazing director makes a video for you
>amazing costume designer makes you clothes
>amazing choreographer tells you what low effort moves to make
>amazing dancers dance with you doing shit that is 1000x harder while making your low effort moves look good
>amazing sound director mixes your shitty sing-under-the-shower voice
>Madonna is so creative and talented, I love her music video!

Even if he relied on assistants (like pretty much every mangaka do), the unstopping grind that manga work is pushed him to find shortcuts and lower the art quality.

I always thought that the state of mind of a manga artist can be seen in the care he gives to backgrounds. Early Kishimoto made some reaaaaaally good city landscapes, very intricate but still easy to read. Kubo (bleach) was the same, but his background became emptier and emptier with time. Oda (one piece) still has detailed backgrounds but they are often too busy and hard to read.

I wonder what kind of quality these artists would be capable of if they were given all the time they needed. I feel like a lot of manga get the life choked out of them by the weekly industry. Lots of slower manga have such beautiful art.

Weekly and monthly mangas are two very different beasts, more so than most realize. While I do like my weekly stuff, it's pretty obvious that series going on for too long drain their authors badly.

Another good example is Dragon Ball. In early chapters, Toriyama would often put his characters in vehicles that were not in the story for titles and extra art. It felt like he had fun, and those were almost like studies straight out of a Robertson book.
That stuff disappeared after a few volumes.
