I think there are 3 levels of development for artists.

>Level 1 = Beginners + really bad artists that get lots of (you)s to tell them what to fix or laugh at how bad they are
>Level 2 = Mediocre artists with minor flaws. Boring art. Everyone just ignores them and they get zero (you)s
>Level 3 = Pro artists that impress everyone and get many (you)s from people asking for their blog or crabs trying to pull them down.

How do I escape level 2? I feel like my skills have stagnated and I'll never leave this horrible "meh" level of skill. Not good, not bad just completely forgettable. I've been stuck at this level for years even though I keep studying. Have I hit my limit?

There are much more levels than just 3. If you think the jump is that quick you're sadly mistaken.

There aren't discrete levels, it's a gradient. Even the best artists on /ic/ get little attention sometimes. Focus on making baby steps to improve your work and fixing all your little errors, as well as putting more thought into concept, and creating more ambitious pieces in general

studie the anatomy of the nose and eye a bit more closely,
Make your linework cleaner and more precise
don't be afraid of putting in color or dont use it at all.
Put character into your characters like expressions, less generic hair or clothes.

>> No.4113948

Getting to level 3 is mainly about the appeal of your drawing. Do more master-studies and research appeal in drawing.

I like your art, I was actually about to type up a post in /alt/ telling you not to give up on that wizard girl drawing. I feel like the only reason your art does not stand out is because I feel like there's a bit lacking conceptually and vision-wise. I feel you need to push your art further so that is leaves a distinct impression on people. Like in your flamethrower girl drawing, what's the mood of it? What are you trying to convey about this subject matter, is she happy-go-luckily spewing fire for the fun of it, or is she torching something for her job and is enjoying her work, or what? I feel trying to convey a more specific tone, feeling, and idea could help improve the memorability of your art.

Getting reactions with your art says less about your technical skill and more about how much your art communicates.

Here are 4 alternative versions of your drawing.
All inferior, but all more interesting.

You can only get away with "boring" art if you do fanart, and even then a more creative option would be better received by the community.

Now go and make at least 2 versions of this >>4114047 where you just let go of any constraints and draw the wackiest shit you can while retaining the concept idea.
Make an extreme angle, break her anatomy for a pyromaniac pose, maybe play heavily with lighting/shading to make that fire look fearsome.

It's all about eye candy.
But this is just about how to catch people's attention, your actual skill comes from retaining the audience cause they recognize your art is also well-done.

I understand how you two feel completely. I think the simple answer is to narrow your vision on where you want to take your art, and generate way more personal work. rather than focusing on "correct" you need to focus on conveying a mood or idea
