It's called professional training. Either by access through a school or a mentorship with an established professional. Both of which are accessible in western society. More than anything it comes down to study ethic.

No doubt this painting is good but what's supposed to be unbelievably amazing here that you doubt it was made without secret resources?

It's really detailed which impresses easily but keep in mind that detail just takes a lot of time. Even someone of moderate level could create a really impressive piece by just investing the time. The painting undoubtedly shows skill that was build up over years but I don't see what you think is so impressive that you couldn't do it if you practiced years yourself.

There are some paintings where I definitely think "I could never do this" but here I don't see a single component I couldn't eventually learn.

>> No.4109275

There's no secret man. All drawing resources teach the same things, which is Gesture, Form, Lighting, and Color. Aim at the fundamentals, don't try to learn processes or formulas, methods or philosophies. Just go for nature.

They put in the work. Not hours, work. Yoi can sit in front of paper for decades, doodling shit, but then you'd have only put in the hours, like a 60s car factory worker.

Producing shit, for years. Just putting in the hours. Putting in work is to actively solving problems. How can I make this faster, better, easier? Put in the work, and you will ger better. Put in just hours, and you will probably get worse and worse with time.

It's not about learning materials, it's about becoming a biological machine. This is all these chink artists do, no exceptions. If you were to ask them about even simple concepts from any other area in life, they'd look at you with vacant expressions.
Plenty of western artists could do something as detailed if they were as obsessed as these artists, there's nothing there that's unique.

They don't spend all day posting despair posts on 4chan all day. Hell, most of the artists I know, and in school, didn't either. There might be a connection there.

Honestly. My whole life it's been about "when can I draw next?" I wanted to draw everything. But 4chan is the only place I've ever been to where most of the people are talking about not drawing for months, or having to force themselves, or simply can't hack more than an hour of concentration. I didn't sleep more than 3 or 4 hours a night in high school and college because I was up all night painting or drawing, because that's when it was the quietest. Thank god for coffee.

Stop thinking they have something you don't. You have the fucking internet, and going by how many neets are here, all the time in the world. So why is it all of you have excuses, and not portfolios?

You do realize that paintings like these can take a week or a month even? Plus they've been practicing for nearly a decade or more. My bet is that your "practice" is like this: you start drawing about an hour a week max, some months you give up, and then you expect to speedpaint a masterpiece like this in a few hours. If you believe this artist just gazed into a magical book that granted them art powers, you're retarded.

>> No.4113287

>>4113250
Seriously. If there's one thing that pisses me off it's this belief that there's some secret shortcuts. It's just laziness. They want the glory, but they don't want to work for it. I spent hours, months, years, trying to figure out how some artists accomplished what they were doing, along with studying art formally. That's it. That's what it is. The image in the OPs post is the result of mastering color, form, perspective, and painting. The composition isn't my favorite thing in the world, but it's good. That's the result of hours of woodshedding. effort, and study. It's not even a Chinese thing, it's an ARTIST thing.
I just hate this lazy attitude that you can just pirate an ebook that can bypass years of effort. That's now how it fucking works. Ever. You can't read your way to being an artist.

so to reach the top you have to be a juiced up machine with only one thought ever on your mind?
Grinding might made you great at the fundamentals and technical drawing, but in order to actually make something from imagination you need to build up that visual library, which won't happen if you are spending 22 hours of the day spitting out the same instructions.

>so to reach the top you have to be a juiced up machine with only one thought ever on your mind?
It helps. What, you think you can reach the top in anything, be it sports, or business, or music, or art, or writing, on hopes and dreams? You gotta be obsessed, pretty much. And I'm not even in visual range of the top, although I'm happy at the level I work at - but I had to work hard, like everyone else, to get here.
And, i never said I "grinded" anything. I had pretty much a standard path in art - mom was an artist, was encouraged to draw and paint as a kid, got serious in high school, was my hobby and main interest in life, and then went for a degree in illustration, graduated, and have worked as an illustrator (and designer) since.
I was gonna paint anyway. But get paid for it, too? I'm in.
It's a bit more than just a visual library. I know you anons like to try and simplify being an artist down to simple ideas like that, but you don't get what being an artist really is. It's not just one thing, it's a lot of things. And being just a little bit obsessed with it is part of it. And, you gotta do the work, and excel in all areas of it, if you want to rise above hobby level (nothing wrong with that level, either.)
But I was talking about anons who don't even get to the lowest bar of the art journey, who don't paint or draw for months, and then post here crying that they're not getting anywhere.

You come here, people tell you that your art is shit, you need to grind the fundies to unrealistic levels, you can't have fun and no matter how much you improve they'll bring you down like the crabs they are. /ic/ is to art what incel circle jerks are to getting laid.

Honestly they're just grinding away to produce highly refined copies of western ideas. They see something that sells and slave away to make endless inferior and redundant copies.

>no focal point
very clear that the focal point is the yellow robed monk in the foreground and you follow the figure into the dragon head in the background

>putting as much detail in the darks as in the lights
this is way too literal, like youve never put this into practice. his darks have a lot of detail because his lights are more generalized (clouds) except at key points (monk, dragon head). this is following the idea you mentioned pretty well actually, just in reverse. its like how our pupils expand in the dark, so we can take in a lot of light to see better, but it makes it harder to see details in the lights because we take in too much of it. shrinking pupils cause the opposite effect, where we control the amount of light to see what is in light but not as much in shadow.

this painting is fine and youre crabbing out hard.
